that funny cause i think bomb and gouge ideology gets kind of boring and old.
I wish the pros had a lot less of it. Thats one the reasons Im for the tour courses to stop lengthening and find ways to force more layups instead. I feel it makes golf more interesting that way. And on another note fwiw i also feel it would broaden the field. But thats just me

I think "bomb and gouge" became a trendy expression born by a few t.v. golf broadcasters. When I heard VJ Singh say he was adopting a new strategy where he professed to prefer wedge from the rough more so than an 8-iron from the fairway, I knew he would no longer be winning tournaments.
The fairway is the place to be if a player wants to consistently hit greens and have good looks at birdie putts. Usually a player successful at hitting fairways and greens, miking lots lots of birdies, swings driver only rarely and mostly plays fairway metals or less off the tee boxes.

I dont hit it far off the tee, so I have to rely on tighter dispersion off the tee and a sharp short game

I agree with all of that except the last sentence. I think that may be reaching just a bit.

Neither very well but I’d rather hit the ball hard than try to finesse a shot.

I agree that having more courses like Harbor Town would broaden the field and I wish there were more courses like it. Personally, I like to swing the driver as much as possible.

I hear on this thread alot of people say they dont bomb or sledge because they arent long enough to be a bomber or sledgehammer. But I dont feel the term B&G or in this case sledge vs finesse would only apply to long hitters. I think the term can still apply relatively at many of our different distance ability levels. Especially if one plays tees more properly suited to their distance. I mean sure we can reach a point where even more forward tees still leaves full driver in ones hands without it ever being questionably long. But that exception aside, the ideology of B&G imo can still apply to majority of players and doesn't imo only mean the longest hitters. We for the most part can still make the choices to play either a hammer or a finesses game.

On saturday on most holes like par 4's I went the finesse route, get it in the fairway, work the ball to the correct area of the green etc.

On the par 5's it was a little different, smash driver as far as possible then no matter the lie get the biggest club possible on that sucker.

522 yards 1st par 5 ; driver into fairway, 3 wood to greenside, chip & putt
553 yards 2nd par 5 ; driver into rough, 2 hybrid leaving 80 yards for wedge
513 yards 3rd par 5 ; driver to fairway, 3 iron to greenside bunker
548 yards 4th par 5 ; driver into fairway trap and hat to just get it out with a wedge as I was up on the face. 250ish left in and hit 3 wood hard out of rough, made it on the green and two putts.

Is that just aggressive golf on scoring holes
