Tiger Woods Schedules News Conference

I would bet that Elin will not be there. Also wouldn't be shocked to hear him say he is either taking the rest of the year off or quitting golf entirely. it's not like he needs the $$ & after the news of the last few days regarding his knocking up the porn star twice.....well I could definitely understand Elin not wanting to be anywhere near him.

I wouldn't think she'd be there anyway.

I mean, PGA Headquarters isn't exactly the venue for a fireside chat, so I can only assume that once he gets past the preliminaries, the rest will be about golf and his plans for it.

I think he's coming back soon.

I find it interesting that TGC just referred to it as an open media event when we are getting signals that it will be anything but open.

There will be a camera there for all to watch though.....

That's not exactly what I would call an "Open media EVENT", I just think it's a little bit funny and misleading. But it's TGC so I don't expect anything less when it comes to Tiger.

Well, at least they are humble about it (from TNN):

"...The news conference will be held during the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona, which is sure to steal attention away from the first big event of the year. Accenture was the first sponsor to drop Woods when he became embroiled in a sex scandal.

'It was a matter of timing,' Steinberg said.

When asked if the news conference could have waited until after Accenture's tournament, he replied, 'No.'"

If he is planning on playing the next week it could not wait I guess. But I take issues with that statement a little bit. I think Pebble Beach is a pretty big tourney and to call this the first big event is taking something away from the other sponsors.

In reality, the short press event does bring attention to golf which could make people tune in and it is not as if it is the final round. People constantly say "enough already talk, we have been waiting for you", and now he schedules something and they say wait, its during an event, you should have waited.

I think it's a brilliant move.

That's all anyone's talking about now and from now until Friday and likely afterward, Tiger will be THE story and he completely upstages the whole tournament.

So Accenture can watch as a news conference gets better ratings and more buzz than their event does. What a way to get even, huh?

This just in...

Tiger will be announcing that he is sorry for all the wrong doings he created. To make up for all of it he will also be announcing that he will be giving up committing adultery for Lent.

I alluded to the timing of this announcement in my previous post. I just had a gut feeling, if he did not play this week, he would come forth with some announcement during this tournament. I was pretty well chastised a couple of weeks ago for saying essentially this on a another forum. :D

Now if he is playing next week, then now is as good a time as any for an announcement. If he is not playing next week, or even the week after, then perhaps an argument could be made he had a personal agenda to steal some thunder from this week's sponsor. It kind of fits the old "Tiger" to do something like this, when someone said, or did something he did not like. There are more than few pros out there who took it in the shorts after negatively challenging Woods.

Fact is we won't ever know for sure what is going on with the timing of this announcement. The fact that he is actually going to announce "something" is pretty much OK with me. Come back later or not at all, makes little difference to me. Let's just get on with the programming. :D

And then Elin walks into the bathroom where Tiger is in the shower and she opens the curtain and he turns around and says 'good morning!'

Yeah Buddy, talk about a blast from the past. That's a good one. :clapp:QUOTE=thanks1974;217479]And then Elin walks into the bathroom where Tiger is in the shower and she opens the curtain and he turns around and says 'good morning!'[/QUOTE]

He could have had his "press conference" this past Monday or Tuesday, or next Monday for that matter.

By the way, Alex Micelli tore Woods and Finchem a new one on Golf Central. It's the first time I ever heard a golf reporter say anything negative about Woods. I wonder how much longer he'll have a job.

So many are "demanding" that Tiger come out and say something and the day he announces that he does, an hour later some are crying about the timing of it.

The guy is to blame for others' bad actions on the course, he's to blame when a kid throws a club or swears on the course, and now he's to blame for bad timing.

Gotcha........

Alex Micelli should also be fined and suspended for his actions.

I do like the guy. I won't deny that.

But I might have been joking a little bit. :peace2:

Wow, you reached deep into the way-back machine for that one Thanks! :D

Another reason I'm annoyed with Tiger: Intentionally picking a Tour day for this faux news conference. A WGC event no less.
Didn't he do that a couple of years ago for some reason?

Elin won't be there.

Back next week? At TPC Scottsdale . . . with the stadium hole . . . on 16 . . . with the drunks . . . who heckle . . . and bring visual aids? I don't see that happening.

It's at 10 in the morning. Golf coverage of any kind doesn't begin until the afternoon. What possible thunder is he stealing by doing it on a Friday morning?

sheesh.

It looks like some of his fellow golfers aren't too happy about his timing

“It’s selfish,” said Ernie Els, mincing no words. “You can write that. I feel sorry for the sponsor. Mondays are a good day to make statements, not Friday. This takes a lot away from the golf tournament.”

Golf News | Golfweek | Why now? Players react to Woods’ plans

sheesh what is Ernie Els thinking? He can't question the BEST GOLFER TO EVER WALK THE EARTH!!!!

and he's not taking questions....

chicken s%#t.

Im going to play Devil's advocate here for a second. If he took questions, people would say these things:
1. He did not take the tough questions
2. He gave PR spin for answers
3. He did not take enough questions.

At this point people are angry (for god knows what) and they want answers (which they have no right to). But I absolutely agree with not taking questions.

At this point, no good can come out of it.

Hell JB you don't need to play Devil's advocate, we have Tiger's advocate posting about this mess on a daily basis.

I think this sums it up...
Golf News | Golfweek | Why now? Players react to Woods’ plans

“He hasn’t accomplished anything if he doesn’t take questions,” said one longtime prominent golf agent. “Then there will still be questions. This isn’t coming clean. I don’t know what it accomplishes. Not answering questions is a big slap in the face to golf.

“I would have had him face the music at the earliest possible moment. The earlier you do it, the less speculation there is. He left it open to all kinds of speculation, which starts to be facts in people’s minds.”

Re: Tiger Woods Schedules News Conference

so he'll come with some 'prepared for the media' bullcrap.

he should just sign up for an event and show up. he's a tool for doing it on the Friday of the Accenture. he's the one who screwed up....NOT the sponsor. he cashed their freaking checks for chrissakes.

he owes me nothing.....if he shows up to play...great....if not....who cares.

Even if he took questions, it would be a prepared for media thing as you put it. It would be now, but heck it always has been. The guy has been a PR robot from the beginning, we all know that.

I agree to an extent with ya JB. Although I think if he took questions under the approach of 'I'm answering questions but this is the only time I will do so' I think he may have ended up ok.
