Alright, the wife and I are getting ahead of planning an anniversary trip to vegas and I'm looking for any and all info, primarily golf related but any other advise for tips would be quite welcome. Right now she was thinking about the Wynn and I see I could play golf there as well. But I'm not opposed to a rental car and spending a day for golf and maybe hoover dam or something like that. But we are in the prelim stages of planning so any info now would be a lot of help.

Sounds like a fun trip. Everytime I go it's for work, so I can't give a lot of help, although there are a couple of Vegas threads in the travel section. Good Luck!

Or I guess here in the course review section, lol.

Sounds fun Icey! The Wynn is definitely an option but I hear that a round of golf there is like $500 or something outrageous. I was just there in June and we opted for a twilight round at Bali Hai, the location was very convenient and the course was very nice. Wolf Creek is probably the biggest "must play" around there as far as everything I've heard but that is close to an hour away, but if you don't mind traveling it is supposed to be amazing. Have fun and take lots of pics for us!

If you are staying at one of the main hotels call ahead to the concierge. They normally have special deals with the local courses.

Wynn is definitly in the top 5 hotel/casinos in town. If you can afford it you will thoroughly enjoy your stay there. The Wynn Golf Club is top notch and a fazio design course so yea the only person you can blame is yourself. (Blame the indian not the arrow right? haha) If you plan to stay on the strip and play just at wynn golf club you wont need a car (course is right behind the casino). Though technically on the "north" end of the strip, its NOT out of the way. The other big top notch hotel/casinos are right next door (venetian, bellagio, pallazo etc) and are very walkable. If you plan to stay just on the strip we got these double decker buses called "the Deuce" that are great for tourists who walk up and down the strip.

Hoover dam, golf anywhere else, going out off the strip DEFINITLY RENT A CAR. Taxi's are fine if you're just traveling up the strip (or need to find a strip club) but its a waste of money to go anywhere off the strip. Last month by some freak accidents i was forced to take a taxi from my home to the airport, the driver didn't know I was a local and preceded to start to take the LONGEST route possible (jerK)

Hope that helps Icey. BTW your avatar is Awesome. It looks like picard is singing the note of his life, and worf in the background is simply riveted.

I threadjack my own thread here, thanks, I love Riker's look as well!!!

On another note, thanks for all the info so far, those were quick responses. I'm sure I'll have to run some of this by the boss!!!

haha I didn't notice riker. Classic riker.

Sounds awesome! I myself am going to Vegas in 3 weeks time for a combo of partying and golf. Me and a mate have already booked up Wolf Creek, then we'll be looking for another 2/3 rounds while we're there too.

So I'll report back to everyone :)

The Wynn golf course is pretty awesome. It's not really worth $500, but it is pretty awesome. And the last shot into 18, with the background of the waterfall and all the people watching you is either really cool or really intimidating. (Last bachelor's party I went to, I got into town way earlier than the rest of the group, gambled for two hours and then made sure my winnings went somewhere other than back into the casino's pockets). It's a very fair course, in absolutely beautiful condition. Don't forget to factor in a tip for the mandatory caddie into the cost.

Hey SnapHook, what's the official resident of Vegas' thoughts about the $20 trick? I tried it one time at MGM and it did work. Just want to see if it's still applicable so the OP can get a heads up on it.

Sorry didn't check this thread for a while. Spank what $20 trick? This IS a tip based town and a little money always greases the wheels. I'm just not sure what trick you're referring to?

You're close. It is a tip but given a certain way to the check in desk attendant so that their manager cannot see the tip (since some casinos discourage that of the front desk now). It's also basically an upfront tip for a chance to upgrade the room for no extra charge. There are actually websites dedicated to this subject when I googled it. I found this out through word of mouth though.

Some of the nicer courses I've played in Vegas are the Paiute course just north of town...There are 3 courses there and they are all great...The Rio Secco in Henderson is pretty nice, that is where the Butch Harmon School is...Mesquite has some great courses but it is a little more than an hour away...I haven't played The Wynn, but if I can play 3 courses for the price of 1 rounds, I will always choose the 3...Have a blast what ever you choose, Vegas is amazing...The wife and I are usually good for at least once a year.

Thank you to everyone for the info and advice. I think we'll end up staying at the Wynn, but I think I'd rather put my golf funds to more rounds of golf at different places other than the Wynn. I read a few things online about a couple courses that have lights, any advice on the night golf situation in vegas?

The two lit courses are just par 3 courses. They're at Angel Park and Callaway Golf. nice enough. Havn't played angel. At callaway all you need is your putter, SW, PW, 9iron and whatever you hit 180yds. You might not even need your 9 iron depending on how far you hit it. Callaway is just a driving range and par 3 course. Angel's got 2 18 hole courses as well.

yea I agree with the others, while Wynn is a top notch course, if you got to shell out around $500 dollers youre better off renting a car and going elswhere. I STRONGLY agree with BigBadBoneDaddy in that the Paiute courses further north are great. 45 mins north of Vegas is a good/bad thing.
Bad: You have to rent a car (Wynn or paiute provide a car/shuttle? I don't know but its worth asking)
Good: Paiute is a pete dye course that would 200-300$ a round if it were actually IN vegas.
I wrote a review about Paitue when I first joined THP. Here's a link:

I have heard nothing but great things about Rio Secca in Henderson but I've never played there. Bali Hai is also on the strip and very nice but never played there either.

Anyways I suggest Paiute, Silverstone, Red Rock, Angel Park, TPC Vegas. All good places with varying prices.

@Spank818 Yeah That should work but I've never done it. Since I live 10 mins from the strip my old broke college friends always stay at Snap Hook Hotel and Casino. But I will say everyone in the casino knows that handshake. i''ve done it to: Get a table faster, get in the door of a club, &cut to the front of the taxi line. Try and get a taxi on the strip 30 mins after new years eve you'll understand that last one.

Well, the Vegas trip is being reborn and the wife and I are starting our travel plans all over again. Anyone have good tips on cheap travel packages, really don't need the flights included unless it can get us to depart from closer for cheaper.

Every spring I attend a tournament is Mesquite. We take SouthWest out of Omaha with a direct flight to Las Vegas and low air fair. I like the direct flight because the clubs never get lost or broken.

I have a good friend that is a Vegas planner. Would you like her info? You can tell her what you want and she can make it happen from the minute you touch down til you leave

vegas locals or others who have done it .is it expensive for cab fare from the stip to the courses around town? for instance badlands and revere? i dont think im going to be renting a car just curious what i can expect to pay when i arrive to figure into my budget. im staying at MGM and i know they have a deal with walters golf not sure if that includes shuttle service but if so i may swap one out for desert pines.

It ain't cheap, you get a car for the $100 for the week

KellyBo and I went to Vegas for Christmas to see MarcH who is Kelly's son. It was a great trip and the golf course we played was The Revere. It's a 36 hole setup and it was absolutely beautiful. The scenery was breath taking and I hope we can make this a yearly tradition!

Trae* lemme know when u come I can get you guest rate at Revere and tee it up with ya if you'd like. Live 2 mins from the course.
