PXG 0311t irons - unofficial review

I am visiting my guy near Boston in May -- he is a PXG dealer, and I will hit the 0311, but I'm more interested in the Apex CF16. The guy is a perfectionist with irons so I'm interested in what shaft works best for an old man with a dream of easy distance and straight in an iron.

That 95g shaft sounds extremely light for you. I could see you getting some great head-speed with it though :) It sucks that they didn't work out, but let's be honest.... how long did you really think they would stay? :silly: Thanks for the feedback! I'd love to give them a go if I could ever find a set to try.

I'd did indeed get rid of them.

Good:

Good profile and great finish. Very durable and the beveled top line makes it look thinner than it actually is, so much more playable than initial look at address. Plays like a players cavity. Slight forgiveness toward the toe

Bad:
Could be the build, but it was too light. With 95g shafts which was lighter than my normal gamer specs. Heel side is definitely more punishing as you'd expect. The feel on center strikes is not as soft as I'd expect from a forged iron. Was hitting a very high ball in mid to scoring irons but not as high on long irons. Again that could be the build

Off-topic, but who's your guy in Boston that builds clubs? If you want to tee it up while you're up here, send me a PM.

Hi -- www.aceofclubstp.com Frank Viola in Saugus. An exacting builder of irons, and driver - those are the only two with which I've had experience with Frank. He is also a Miura, PXG, and Callaway, and other makers dealer. Lots of shafts, too. Be glad to tee it up - thanks. Seeing about dates now.

The more I read about these, the more I am absolutely dying to hit them.

Here we go round 2.....
My guy came through with a great price and I will have these built properly with my gamer spec shafts in april

The special lime green program f15 120g :) and I have a thing for dark finishes

When I saw that that finish was coming to these, I immediately thought "Kang is going to own a set of these".

Those are an AWESOME looking set. Hit them well.

Oh my gosh!!! Those are freaking gorgeous!

Those look awesome...You're representing THP with those colors.

Kang, your guy might be the most consistent connect I've ever heard of! Gorgeous sticks there, him em well.

That seems more of your style! That green is Awesome!!!

Those are some beautiful clubs. Black clubs with lime green shafts...WOW.

Those look great! I had a chance to hit these a couple weeks ago with PX shafts and was impressed although I didn't have enough time with them to determine if they would help my game at all.

I hit these when I was getting fitted for new clubs in October. The fitter I went to had me hit multiple models with multiple shaft options. The PXG's were ok but couldn't come close to the CF16's. Hitting a 6 iron in both my numbers were:

PXG CF16
club speed 86.2 84.4
ball speed 110.5 116.3
launch angle 15.0 15.1
spin 5907 5411
carry 149.3 167.3
total 166.0 182.6

2mph less chs but 6mph more bs with cf16 over pxg? wow that's a pretty big difference. sounds like you and the cf16s were made for each other!

I wouldn't think that was possible, but glad they work for you that well!

First, Kang, I don't know you, but you must be one bad a$$ golfer to hang with those clubs - black heads w/ that shaft ... whoa, great! Reminds me of my son, who would also have the cajones to bag those. You've got brass.

Hit'em well!

Were the PXG irons the 0311's or 0311t's?

They were the 0311's

Watched Rocco hit the 0311s on the range today. Nice high draws. Beautiful looking irons.

Really nice! I remember reading about them.

Let us know how the face on these black finish irons holds up.

http://www.golfdigeststix.com/golfdigeststix/03_16_2016/MobilePagedArticle.action?#articleId739333

"But while Schweigert is quick to note that there is no explicit playability benefit to the finish in terms of spring-like effect or moment of inertia (the coating is not on the face of the iron), it has value. “I think the best way to put it is if having a black club looks really cool to you and it’s really important to you, then this is the best finish to achieve that,” he said."

I wonder why the face is not coated with the DLC?
