Central Iowa THP Get-Together

He's only allowed to play a 4 iron.

What course did you mention in the DM area, Smalls?

Otter Creek in Ankeny. There are actually a few in the area that I have played.YEARS ago.

I researched a few others that looked nice too. I will do a bit of looking soon.

I think that the second weekend in October may be the one to shoot for. Is anybody interested in staying overnight or would everybody prefer to play and head home?

That's awfully tempting JRod, but I've seen you putt, that thing is probably cursed. When are you moving down here so we can have Ash-Vegas/JC get togethers?

Dude it's not that bad on greens that actually roll faster than 5, ask Hawk =(

If I do this (and I talked to Jacqui about it today at the course and she's all for it) I will be coming up Friday night and staying at the ex BIL and SIL's house. May or may not stay the night Saturday.

I'd most likely be willing to stay over if anybody wanted to play 36.

Not sure I can afford an overnight yet, but may by then.

I'd drive up Friday stay the nite & maybe drive back Sat. eve, but most likely sta & drive back Sun. I dont mind staying @ motel 6 or a super 8

I'm not 100% sure about staying but I'd sure enjoy having a few drinks and chilling with everybody on Saturday night. Hopefully we can get a few more people interested and figure out a solid plan.

Anybody have any thoughts on this beauty?

Looks long and hard! (6,550 yards, 140 slope)

No worries. I play the shorties!

I'm serious about staying Saturday night, btw. My thought is that we could play early-ish (8:00 am or so) and then replay afterwards. Then we could have dinner and some fun. I'd probably plan on leaving on Sunday morning for home.

Anybody could do what they wanted, of course.

Cool, those look better for me! Deacon FTW! haha

I'd have no interest playing longer than that anyway. The nice thing is that we can play different tees! Jrod and I do that all the time.

As it stands all looks great to me. Should fall between the end of training and my start date, so why not. Course looks great.

There are a few IA members that I might PM to see if they'd like to join. I'm actually very excited about this. We could easily get some roommate action going on and make it cheap if people wanted to stay.

Are you looking at the 8th or the 15th?

The weekend of the 8th

OK, checking with the ex BIL right now to see if he can do it if I am able to do it.

That date works with him if it works with me! So I have lodging, haha.

I thought you went with the next weekend, but may still fly. I'll work on it.

The weekend of the 8th or 15th should work for me, I'm in barring something crazy coming up.

This is what happens when you have a baby, your life becomes all work, baby, and mom, and then you fall behind on the happenings of THP. My Saturdays are typically reserved for Hawkeye Gameday, which usually entails me, a TV, my couch, pizza and beer. But hey, I can't pass up an opportunity for a THP get together. Of course, I will have to caution that it will depend on my wife and how she feels about me being gone from the baby. By that time, it should be fine though. Plus, Des Moines is only 1 hour to the south side, and 2 hours to the north, so I won't be too far from home.

As for courses,

Otter Creek (Ankeny) - http://www.ankenyiowa.gov/Index.aspx?page=1069 supposed to be a great course since it was remodeled (probably not the right word) 3 years ago. I played it prior to the remodel, and it was in good shape, but a bit boring. I'm told the remodel fixed the 'boring' aspects of the course.

Jester Park (Granger) - http://jesterparkgolf.com/ Played this this year. It's an average course as far as fairways go, but nice greens. Very forgiving course, average length as I recall. Also, very reasonably priced.

Beaver Creek Golf (Grimes) - http://www.beavercreek-golf.com/site/ I have to plug this one just because I know the head pro there. I graduated high school with his half or step or normal brother. Never figured that one out. Its been a few years since I've played it, but it is a nice course, and last I knew, you had an option for which back 9 you wanted to play.

The Legacy (Norwalk) - http://www.thelegacygolfclub.com/ I've never played it, but I've heard it's nice. It's also on the expensive side, which is probably why I've never played it.

TCI (Saylorville Lake) - http://www.tcofiowa.com/ Again, I've never played it. It used to be expensive. I'm hoping its still in good shape, I have heard that they have struggled financially the past couple of years.

Blank Golf Course (Des Moines Municpal) - http://www.blankgolfcourse.com/index.html My dark horse recommendation. Everyone I've ever talked to said this was a nice municipal course. But then again, everyone I talk to is used to playing our crappy small town municipal course, or one of our neighboring courses which still has sand greens.

Let's make it happen, and preferably have access to the hawkeye game!

My girlfriends family lives in Ames so if they can make it work I am thinking about coming down. Barring any stuff with my fraternity or her sorority I should be able to go
