Interesting Tiger Woods Family Story

So if you had a cousin who was hooked on heroin you would just keep forking over the cash even though you know it will be used to feed their addiction? Families are complex and dynamic, and sometimes the most loving thing you can do is let people fail or hit rock bottom.
So if your "cousin" was dying from a debilitating disease that was of no fault of their own, and you had means to help them out, you shouldn't???

Not exactly the same thing in my opinion. Comparing someone with a crippling disorder to a junky is not exactly fair.

+1,000 if you've ever known someone with MS, it's totally different than having an addiction or something you may have personally caused.

It would not matter to me, I will always be there for my family. It is just who I am. I would try and find a way for them to get by on their own, and that is part of helping in some situations.
that is good to hear, you're good man

We seem to have a good number of thp's who have family members they don't like.

One day, many many years from now, someone is going to write a book about eldrick that is going to be a pschological study of him and it will be fascinating.

I don't particularly care for rick reilly, I think he's hacky, it's very true that he has an axe to grind with tiger and that is probably reason why he decided to write this article on this particular week. However, the reason there is only one side to this story is because tiger's side refuses to talk about it.

This may not be true, but part of me wants to believe that the siblings wanted to keep this private but because tiger refuses to call them back, they were forced to play this hand.

Which brings me back to the psychology of mr. woods. It's an interesting and completely unique bubble that he survives in. I have no idea what he hears from people, what he thinks or how he ticks. He may have very valid and in-grained reasons to do the things he does, and he may have a valid reason to indirectly tell his siblings to bleep themselves, I don't know.
I do know that Tiger continually allows controversy to surround him because it lets things become issues. Be it being to cheap to pay his mistresses enough so they would keep their mouthes shut (you know, figuratively anyway) and not expose his affairs in magazines for 30 grand or whatever it was.
Be it Haney writing a book and tiger's vehement reaction that stirs the pot of interest.
Be it tiger being an arse to the media so much for so long that he burned most bridges and had most media members appearing giddy to throw him under the bus when the time came.
Be it Tiger appearing to have some kind of beef with his siblings, ignoring them to the point where they feel they have to go to the media to hope to get some kind of response from him.
so on and so forth

I think it's interesting. Obviously the bubble tiger is in is vastly different from ours, so what he hears, how he hears it and how it affects what's going on around him is very different. These "issues" that we continually see and hear about him may be things that he barely knows are stories, because they aren't things he's paying attention to. Thing is though, these are mostly all stories that don't have to be. Maybe he has had good reason to let them be, maybe it's a stubborn honesty where he doesn't care and won't give in, won't play the game and has some principled reason to let the chips fall where they may.
I just find it interesting. There are things that happen around money that stay behind closed doors. Maybe not a sick relative or mistresses or whatever, maybe not even malicious things, but things happen and those things don't become public because the right things get to the right people, people get what they need and everyone keeps quiet because its in everyone's best interests. With tiger, that more often than not doesn't seem to be the case. With tiger it becomes public. It'd be interesting to be a fly on the wall in his world and see why that is.

Whats more sad?

Not helping a family member in need or passing judgement on someone in a situation in which you know absolutely nothing about other that what some notorious hater wrote in an article?

People act so righteous its almost amusing at times.

Great post JRod.

As an aside, it's a bit harsh intimating he's a billionaire and doesn't give a rats about anyone else - remind me how much he's given away to charity, and how many kids his foundation helps out?

As said by many others, we don't know the full story here, we don't know what may or may not have gone on behind closed doors, we don't know if Tiger has helped them out in the past...etc etc etc

Sure in his personal life he's been a douche, that's accepted fact, but in this I'm like meh whatever simply because it's written by who it's written by, and we only have this short excerpt and way to corroborate it.

Foundations and charities are great ways for the uber rich to get tax breaks. This thread is funny. More people want to bash Reilly than Tiger. Unfreakingreal!

I'm completely done at this point. No more Tiger talk for me ever again on THP.

I'd love to have some sort of reaction to the article, but there's 2 sides to every story...and the truth usually lies somewhere in between. It would be nice of him to take care of your own if you have the means though.

I have got a half brother and a half sister. Half brother and I haven't spoken since our mother died last year and only spoke infrequently prior to that. My half sister is 14 years younger than me, and I didn't meet her for the first time until she was 22, I barely know her. Just because someone is related to doesn't mean you necessarily like them or even know them that well. And no one, and I mean no one really knows what goes on inside someone else's family. There is a lot more to this story than meets the eye.

Typical Tiger.

Sounds like the entire family short of Tiger is doing what they can to help. Hard to believe they all alienated Tiger. More like he only cares about one thing. And his actions up until now make that one thing very clear.

Seems like some here are making assumptions without all the facts. Let's look at what we do know. There are stories going back for years of how cheap Tiger is. There are stories about how poorly he treats those that work him. He's never been been fan friendly. He had absolutely no respect for his wife and children. He has absolutely no respect for women in general, using his fame to afford himself the opportunity to have sex with waitresses and porn actresses. There are even rumors he had a relationship with his neighbor's daughter, a girl who babysat his kids. But he did wait until she was of age.

When all that is taken into consideration, I think it's pretty unfair to assume Tiger would treat his half siblings like dogs, ignoring a half brother that suffers from a horribly debilitating disease. Why on Earth would anyone possibly think that could be true?

Hey, man. I just want to see good golf. Golf's so much better when Tiger's playing well. I swoon at the fist pump.

There seem's to be assumptions going both ways and its pretty clear seeing the Tiger bashers vs the Tiger fans. The timing of all of this stinks, where was this story prior to a Tiger win? I have half brothers that I am not close to. I will not be in contact with them regardless of my needs, their needs, or someone's big responsibility. This is a stupid story, nothing telling about the individual Tiger is at all!

Rep added! There are a lot of reasons not to like Tiger, but his relationship with his half brother isn't one. Family dynamics are not understood by people outside of that family. It's great to see so many perfect people out there.

I don't necessarily disagree with what TC and Kevin are saying, but I still want to know the whole story, which I know we are not getting.

I'll rep the next person that says they don't give a **** about any of this and actually played golf today, lol

Why are you being such a tool? WTc are you anyway?

Apparently he's above these types of discussions.

But he will post in them.
