    Aspiring LPGA candidate name suggestion.

I have been at a construction site for the past two months and acting as a pm. I didn't share and forgot to share that the project begins at a golf course and the management has been overly gracious by allowing me a plot of land for our bull pen.

I have taken the advantage of being near the course by playing a round here and there and also practicing after job site closes. It's been a nice 2 months on this respect.

Every time I go to the course, I see a father and daughter duo practicing - every time I go - rain or not. It intrigued me enough to start a conversation and leading to a budding relationship.

Min and Mr. Kim are from Korea and she's a Jr. Golf wiz and aspiring to emigrate to USA and play LPGA. She practices from 7 to sundown at this course. I thought that was it but they go over to a lit range and hits more balls till 10 or so. She hits well over 1000 ball a day - not counting a bag of balls for short game pitches and chips and putts.

A conversation led to an opportunity to suggest an American name to them. I had offered different ones but the duo took a liking to this name. I want an honest reaction and thoughts which they want to hear as a feedback.

The name of came up with is:

    Korea Kim.

    Well?

    Cool story!

Are you looking for a "stage name" because that's what Korea Kim sounds like to me.

I don't like it. As a nickname, maybe. And then only if Kim was a first name. Sounds like an Asian cowboy to me.
If the girl's planning to move, she'll probably wind up with a nickname anyway, and there's nothing wrong with Min for that matter.

Not sure how I feel about it. Korean Kim sounds kinda....Well I can't think of the word for it but it sounds somewhat silly. More like something you would call a FES in high school. Personally I don't think I would refer to someone like that other than in a joking manner. Not as a name though.

It sounds stupid and really almost offensive. If someone is asking for name suggestions, why in the world would you say "Korea Kim"? Why not a normal name?

Sounds like a stripper's stage name. Not that I'd know anything about strippers mind you.

I agree here. How is "Korea Kim" even remotely close to an "American" name? How did it come up that she needs an American name?

Lots of people who move from Korea or China over to the states adopt an American name. Or at least most of the ones I have ever met did.

I was just wondering who came up with the idea. If it was them, then OK. If I was in the situation I wouldn't feel it was my place to suggest they needed to do it. And the suggested name is a a bit much, don't you think?

This is going to come off sounding non-PC, but here goes: if she's serious about making a name for herself, tell her to keep working on her game. Also tell her to work on her English if that's not her primary language, so that if she makes it out on Tour, she can communicate well with the press and others here in the US. That will make her stand out more than a silly name.

I agree on both counts. If they want one, that's one thing. If you just suggest one, that seems intrusive. And Korea Kim seems like a ridiculous name to me.

If you really want something American, go basic. Plenty of names out there.

Dont wish to sound disrespectful but I'm not really seeing the point of this. Whatever her name is should be what it is. If she does move here and makes frriends they may or not give her a knickname so i think those chips should just fall where and when they may fall.

If she really does want one then Korea Kim is not it IMO. That sounds more like a name that fans (if she had any) would make up if she was a woman wrestler or something.

I think Min is a nice name anyway so why change it. Sounds like a pretty name to my english speaking brain. Afterall it is her name, unless that is already short for something else in which case they already gave her a nickname.

"now teeing off, Min Kim" ......Sounds good to me.
    I golf because I can But I stink because I can't
