Our flaps on our doors (we have 4 flaps, two doors) are 9.75" x 17". We have yet to have anything come in (that we know about!). You'd need something bigger, definitely, but not by much. I think the scent of the dogs helps other animals know the place is occupied! I dated a girl who had the next size larger from that one and she never had anything come in either. It's possible, but animals know when it's another animals territory. The size dog door that I would need for my 135lb. puppy (see avatar) with also allow other critters that I'd rather not have in my home!!!
Would make it too easy for the indoor (outdoor curious) cat to get out. Wife would kill me.
Bones, is about half that weight, but he's a tall lab-hound mix. I'd have to install a pretty large door as well. Not to mention he scares himself when his collar clangs against his food dish. Somehow I don't see him pushing his way through a dog door.
Around here, that would be a bonus, hehe.
Again, see the size of my doors, that is the extra large size. And all 4 dogs that I have had a dog door with have adapted very easily and quickly to it (only the first one had to learn after being an adult).
Dog doors are great for some, but you still have to have the fenced yard and a place to put the door (ours goes through a cabinet!)
