TaylorMade M2 Irons Preview

Give me a 34 degree m2 7 iron and dare me to hit it higher and farther than my 02 Bertha, don't think it will happen, but would love to be proved wrong

The cool thing is there are sim's and monitors all over the place and you can test them head to head. I would be interested to see what happens.

I would love to try it. I hit most of these new irons close to 40y peak height with all of these "jacked lofts". I wanna see a 60y peak height with 75* descent angle. Haha

Thank you that was incredibly informative.

I've been one against the distance claims and loft differences but this makes perfect sense.

Yeah I thought it was one of the best vids put out by a golf company. I just think it will take some time for the majority of golfers to come around to this way of thinking. As a science guy, I like it. Can't argue with the launch monitors!

I tested some 545s 40y peak height 170 carry. I quickly put it down so I didn't buy them.

Thats what I'm talking about, I would love try an iron that goes straight up into the air! I do like that taylormade offers matching 55 and 60 degree wedges in the M1. I also saw where you could have the custom option to have your lofts weakened a couple degrees if you were so inclined to do so. It might be an interesting experiment.

why do you miss having only two wedges? do you find more opportunities to hit lots of fairway woods and hybrids?

explain why jacked up is bad for you. I'm not trying to be difficult, I've just not heard a criticism of the loft issue that resonated with me.

Just a personal preference on the wedges, I played some of my best golf when I simplify things. I used to play some old ping eyes that I believe the wedge was around 49-50 degrees and the sw was around 57. Right now I have a 3 wood, heaven wood, and a Devine 9 that I love to hit as well but I have to either drop one of my 4 wedges or a wood to stay under 14 clubs. Didn't mean to criticize the loft issue, I would just like to test these with traditional lofts and see if I could hit them higher and farther. I hope to get to hit these soon.

I appreciate the response and I certainly don't mean to criticize you or demean your preferences. but I still don't understand the issue. if it launches like a 9i but goes farther and can hold a green, sign me up.

I hear you. I like more forgiving and longer irons as well. That's why I have recently put the 02 big berthas back in my bag. Very high launching iron which is what I need. I am very intrigued by these and will try them. I really like what hogan is doing with just putting the loft on their irons just wish I was good enough to hit them.

I seen these irons in person today . From the pictures I had seen I was not interested at all . I thought the heads would be huge but to my surprise they are about the same size as the Rsi1 irons which I currently play.
These to me look fantastic , love em . A set of 6 pw,aw , 88 hl shafts tipped firm is on order. Hope to have them by March 4th before I leave on my Palm Springs vacation in 2 weeks .

Why? We just saw in the video that loft is only one element of the overall technology package that determines how the club performs. Whatever the number on the club...it's just a number.

Nice irons. I will probably hit them next time I am in Golfsmith.

Hit these yesterday. Tours: Yes. They performed well for me.
Regulars: XTD cross cavity updates. They were solid for me and long as all heck, but I couldn't control it.

Tequila just watched the video and actually went and hit the M2 today. I totally understand the loft versus technology thing. I also know that my 02 Bertha at 34 degrees will not hit as far as the M2 at 28.5. But my 27 degree iron hit about the same length with a little more height according to the golfsmith simulator. I would have liked to compare a similar lofted club as my 34 degree iron but they only had the 7 iron in the M2. Now in fairness my 27 degree 5 iron is 2 degrees flat and had my preferred shaft in it, graphite reg. flex, the M2 was standard and had the regular flex graphite, which is 2 degrees more upright than I use. I think if I could have an M2 a little more fit to me, I definitely would hit them farther. I will be interested to see if the gapping in the M2 irons 7 iron through gw is as consistent as my Berthas, if it is, I would be interested in making a change. On the other hand, I hit the G irons as well and just loved the slim down look and hit them so much more consistently than the M2's. Could have been my swing, but the M2's were a smash or miss for me. The G irons were just very consistently nice as far as distance and dispersion were concerned.

Was just thinking about your number is just a number quote here and that is why I like what Hogan is doing with their irons. I like the whole this a 40 degree lofted club, this is a 44 degree lofted club, 48 and 52, 56, and 60 and so forth. I would like to see that for all companies and compare a 27 degree lofted club from taylormade, callaway, Nike, Adams, titleist, cobra, Cleveland, and all manufacturers instead of numbers. Would be interesting to me, everyone build up your best 34 degree iron and let's see who can go the highest and farthest.

As a history teacher, I guess that would be considered a little socialist. Lol. Would be fun to see though!

Wish you'd have told me this yesterday! I would have picked your brain. Very interested in the tours. Didn't know they were available to hit anywhere yet.

We got some demos in. Luckily we have the forum here to talk too!

I definitely preferred the Tours vs Regulars. Much sleeker shape, better sound and no darn face slots (no different than Regulars). That I'd imagine allows them to drop the CG a ton without having to support the face slots with added structure. They looked like better, updated 2.0 to me, which is a big compliment.

Just saw the commercial with Jason day. 295 yds with what I'd guess is 3 or 2 iron? Yeah lol crazy

That's like Spicoli long.

I have been doing some research and was planning to hit the PSI's along with a few other irons. There doesn't seem to be too much love for the PSI's in this thread. Reasons why? Do you think I'd be better off hitting the M2?

I'd hit them both and see which one you like the best. I know that's the boring answer. The PSI just seems like a DOA product. PSI Tour got some juice back with DJ throwing them in the bag and almost winning, hopefully that carries over. PSI comes off as just a reboot of RSI 2.

Which were (at least to me) almost the same iron as the SLDR.
