The US Department of Homeland Security is warning people to uninstall QuickTime for Windows because of a hacking threat.
Why? Security experts say Apple is not patching the problem and have no intentions of doing so.
The 2 active vulnerabilities in QuickTime for Windows leave you wide open for malicious software to be installed if you were to be tricked into visiting a malicious web page or open a file sent to you via email.
There are other options to play the QuickTime format, such as Windows Media Player and others, so QuickTime is no longer a requirement to play those formats.
If you’re a QuickTime user, or if you know one, please spread the word: No more QuickTime on Windows. And if you’re not sure how to get rid of it, just go to the Start icon, click on the Control Panel, then Programs, then Programs and Features. Select QuickTime, and then click Uninstall.
This only pertains to Windows users and it is no joke. Even if you don't use QuickTime, you should still uninstall it if it is on your pc.
And that’s it! You can go back to having a relatively worry-free Windows experience, at least until the next big exploit comes along…
