I have a kids set of golf clubs with graphite shafts that probably better served for a 9-12 year old, I'm thinking about cutting it down for a 7 year old, probably take off 8 inches. Any cons?

Swing weight. Need to be able to feel the head in the swing, but maybe that young, he/she will not notice the difference.

I agree with Hoosier on this one and it's only one opinion but i believe giving a youth under 10 a cut down golf club is a mistake that may give the kid some habit or habits that might be difficult to break ... there are kids sets or even single clubs that might be more suitable
