How about a fun little game. Inspired by everyone's WITB and the constant requests from us new guys for club recommendations, I would like to see what some of you come up with for a bag full of clubs with a budget of only $800. Use the PGA Value Guide's resale values as your reference. Note that iron set prices appear to be based on 8 clubs, so feel free to prorate if you want fewer clubs to make room for hybrids, wedges, etc. Please note the price after each entry and a total at the end.

I'm really curious to see which area people spend more money, which clubs show up the most, and any other interesting trends that might show up. Perhaps later, we could do this for $600 or $1000 to see how much that changes the selections and thought process, as well.

A big thank you to anyone/everyone that actually takes the time to research and put together a bag. I imagine this could be a cool resource for lots of people!

My current bag comes in at under 800 and I like the setup pretty well.

Going on ebay sales prices (used clubs)

Driver: Taylormade R1 - $100

Irons Wilson Staff V4's $290 4-gw
Wedges Ping Glide 54 & 58 $160 for the pair
Putter Bettinardi studio stock #8 $95

Total 785. I love that set up.

I already did this for $700 including a new bag last year.

Tm r1 $100
Tm rocketbladez $230
Tm rbz 3wood $50
Tm rbz hybrid $30
Tm atv 56 wedge $20
Vokey sm4 58 $40
Seemore ptm1 fgp $100
Tm catalina bag $120

$670 ish.

But if I were to do it today no bag just clubs

Tm r1 $100
Tm vsteel 15 degree 3wood oldie but a goodie . $19
Callaway BB heavenward hybrid $38
Tm speedblades $282
Md2 slate wedges 54/58 $96
Scotty studio select Newport 2 $141

$676 and room to have all grips redone to my liking. Figure $120 to regripped all clubs.

$796 for this setup.

You don't have to spend a lot to get a good set of clubs. Especially if you buy a few years older equipment

Cobra Fly Z driver: $130
Taylor Made R15 3hl fairway wood: $90
Cobra Fly Z hybrid $75
Wilson staff tour v2 3-pw, $300
Cobra trusty rusty wedges, used, 51 and 57 $60 and $30 respectively
Odyssey white hot pro #9 used $60
Super stroke 1.0 grip $15

$760 total. And all the used gear was good condition or better. This reminds me that you can get good gear for a solid price without totally diving into the bargain bin. I'm betting I could have found some irons for cheaper, but still a bargain.

Are you guys looking at the resale value or trade in value? Either way it's impressive what you can get for 800 or less.

Keep in mind that's like $174846383 CdN dollars lol

I used current CPO prices for most of mine and borrowed the $100 value for the R1 that others used.

Callaway optiforce driver $100
XHP 3 wood 50
Callaway Apex $460
Bridgestone J40 wedges $120
Odyssey Tank #7 70

I built my current bag with a wedge change , I did have to give up my 3 hybrid

The first time I did it, it was trade in value and my number was $534, but I went in and changed it. And ended up with $760.

My current bag cost me as such.

Driver- R15- Free
3 wood- 915f $130
3and 4 Hybrids- Cobra Bafflers $50 for both
5hybrid- adams DHY $30 (just bought)
Irons- Wilson Staff M3 4-AW $280 (only paid $35 after trade in)
Wedges- Cobra trusty rusty $100 for 2 of them
Putter- Bettinardi SB-12 $180

Total- $770 (obviously the free driver helps out)

I used mid resale prices and rounded to the nearest $5

Driver: Cobra Fly-Z $94
FW: 4W, 7W Callaway FT Optiforce $47 each $94 total
Hybrid: Callaway X2Hot 5h $37.60
Irons: Mizuno JPX 850 6-GW #317.25
Wedges: Bridgestone J40 54*, 58* $37.60 each $75.20 total
Putter: Odyssey Prototype Black #9 $94

Grand Total: $712.05

Leaves me with enough to find a cheap used bag, or a 4h.

I used the prices from the PGA link provided, for the irons it was an 8 piece set so i adjusted for a 6 piece set. I know I could find these much cheaper from the bay, realistically I could get this set up for under $600 on the bay. Juts shows that you can get quality gear on the cheap if you don't mind a few cosmetic blemishes.

Going off ebay prices

Driver - Used SLDR 430 - $~100
FW - Used Adams Tight Lies Tour 3W - $49
Hybrid - Used Adams Pro 20* Hybrid - $49
Irons - Used Mizuno MP 30 Irons 4-PW - $150
Wedges - New Titleist SM4 wedges $69 a piece x3 = $207
Putter - Used Odyssey Works #1 - $78

Total comes up to $633 which would allow me to make lie angle and length adjustments and buy a bag to come up with the rest of the $800.
