Srixon Z 545 Irons Preview

Watching Crossfield's review on the 945's had me wondering when he said you can blend the set while ordering through them. 3 4 in the 545 5 6 in the 745 and 7-PW in the 945. How sexy of a set would that be?

Stupid sexy. Seriously.

I borrowed a z745 7 iron with KBS Tour from a buddy down in North Carolina, and since it's winter here in NY I only got to hit it on an indoor sim. I hit it against my XTD Forged with Recoil Prototype and I was very impressed with it. Not sure if I'd like the z545's better but I like the looks of the whole line.

Based on the glowing reviews here, these are still at the top of my ponder list, but like Jimmy, I am also pondering a mixed set of 545 / 745 irons, not quite to the extremes he posted, but maybe the 4/5/6i in 545 and then the rest in 745?????

I can honestly say, personally, I really don't see the point in a mixed set of these. The set as a whole is really good and does so in a package at address that looks like a smaller iron. But, I'm not a big split set believer anywho.

I agree let alone the talks of 3 or 4 combos in the set

It is something I have never considered before, and at the end of the day, if I hit either of those sets well I would probably go with a full set in whichever I preferred

And to be honest, prior to THP I would never have even considered a split set

Or 20* and 23 u45
5 and 6 545
7 and 8 745
9 and pw 945

I was thinking about this yesterday but three ways.

5,6,7 545
8,9,PW 745 or 945

Then I realized its a terrible idea to purchase new clubs. :(

Honestly, I don't see any reason to do a combo set unless you were looking to do more shot shaping with your scoring irons

im with mike. i had considered the 745/545 combo but am glad i went with all 545s. iirc the lofts are slightly off when doing the combo and you might have to make some adjustments there(not a big deal just pointing out). I dont see the need to go the combo right.

I'll chime in on the "I agree" train. I kind of want a set of 745s just because they look so good, but at address I'd honestly be hard pressed to tell the difference between the 545 and 745. I think this is the smallest headed GI set I've seen.

And to be completely honest, I have had no trouble shaping the ball or flighting the ball down with the 545s

I never had a problem flighting or shaping the ball with the altitudes when I had then so I think you can do that with any clubs with proper technique. I just think IMO a combo set gives someone a sense of confidence knowing they don't have to always be perfect in the longer irons where everyone wants more consistency.

Had a tough range session today with my Z545 with Recoil 95 F3. I think the shafts are too light. I keep second guessing myself on reshafing with these, especially since I went through the trouble of getting the matching AW and reshafted with matching Recoil. Expensive experiment. I miss my Nippon 1050.

I joined the club, 545's with C Taper Lites (110g) are in the house. Now some 545 porn:

Congrats and welcome to the club rafdo!

This is the combo I want most.

I have some z545s with the 6.5 PXs on the way. I don't think I'm man enough to game that stiff of a shaft, so a shaft swap is highly possible.

Love it rafdo, sweet man!

Contemplating putting the CTL's into mine also. Dream set I really believe.

I have the stock s300s out of mine that you are welcome to if you want them.

Thanks for the offer Aaron. I hit that combo really well in the golf shop.

Before I take you up on your offer, I'm going to see what these feel like. If they are a no go, Cace has a set with the Nippon 950GHs in them that he may trade me for the PX 6.5s.

I've also got a full set of Regular C-Tapers that I would try in them, but they are .370 tips & I think the z545s are .355.

These are so beautiful. Need to demo these somewhere soon.

These will be a second set for me for sure.
