I was wondering what information everyone could give me about different shafts. Im looking at trying some different shafts on my driver, right now i have a diamana D+ 70 x stiff and i was wondering what other shafts out there are comparable and what the differences are? and if anyone can give me some good options to look at and how to tell the differences in the shafts.:clapp:

edit- im not sure if i didn't provide enough information, but i am very new to golf and so i was set up with a basic setup and i want to learn more about the shafts and the differences. my ss is around 105-110 and i hit my drives around 270 carry and 285 total distance. i have no idea what to even look at.

None has advice or ideas?

The 4 factors I consider are bend point, flex, weight, and cost. Aside from cost, the most important factor, for me, is the bend point...the second is weight...and the third is flex. I want a reasonably priced shaft, with a high bend point, that weighs within 8-10 grams of the one I am replacing. Usually I go with S-flex...but my latest fairway configuration is R-flex...to better match the feel of my hybrid and 4 iron. P.S. There are some good Youtube videos on the subject.

im looking at some shafts and i was wondering what shafts were similar to the diamana D+ 70 x stiff that came from titleist, and i'm trying to find good information to read and have more of an understanding of the aftermarket shafts. i know i want a shaft that is a low launch low spin, im not sure if that is torque. i know i like the weight at 70g but i'm not opposed to trying different weights. and as far as i know the x stiff feels better than just a stiff for me. Thank you for giving me a little help 4Regal.

10 or so episodes on shaft design and what works, how it works, why it's built and how it's built.

THP Radio on shaft design with Matrix Shafts
https://www.thehackersparadise.com/the-golf-industry-uncut-volume-18-matrix-shafts/

THP Radio with Project X talking shaft design
https://www.thehackersparadise.com/the-golf-industry-uncut-volume-2-talking-shafts-with-project-x/

These would be good starting points for education and help. And then i would look at this and get ready to have your mind blown. :D

I really wish i could go to the Shaft up#1... but its in the middle of school and i have responsibilities to my parents and the farm. if i could get a neighbor to take care of the animals and i was able to get off the animals than maybe i could get away for the trip. Though i would like one shaft that has the thp logo even if i have to pay......... hahaha

edit- to bad im in south dakota and there are no events up north so i cant sign up... unless you want to drop my name in JB..... haha

If you wanted to know what other shafts would be similar without trial and error or other's reviews, you could look up shaft E.I. profiles (E= Modulus of Elasticity and I = Area Moment of Inertia). Most companies that offer that information charge for it though.

https://www.golfshaftreviews.info/ei/

Also, low launch/low spin/low torque means different things to different shaft companies so just because two companies have a shaft that they consider as low/low doesn't automatically mean they are going to perform the same for you in the same club head. So looking at profiles or other measurements (butt and tip stiffness in CPM) could help get you closer to what you are looking for.

Personally, I would get fit for a driver/shaft if I thought there was something not working right for me. Though I understand it's easier said than done in some areas and can be cost prohibitive.

Unfortunatly the closest place i could go to get "fit" is Fargo ND or Sioux falls SD at a golf store named Austeds. then the next closest would Minneapolis.. i live around 100 miles south of fargo and about 130 miles north of Sioux falls. Thats the reason im trying to figure out as much information as i can so i can try and find a shaft that is comparable to what i have so i can take a look at something different i want to try and see if i can get a little better feel and more accurate.
I wish the shaft up experience was over a weekend so i wouldn't have to ruin my perfect attendance.

Cool Clubs has an iPhone app that has measurements for a large number of wood shafts. All of the shafts are measured using their proprietary methodology so a proper comparison is possible. It is possible to compare 5 shafts and you can see the differences in EI profiles, deflection etc. you can also check the measurements of individual shafts with using the comparison feature. nice little app to play around with and learn about shafts. IIRC it cost about 20 bucks for 12 months.

One thing to keep in mind is that app only works on wi fi and not on the cellular network.

Ya never know what other THP events pop up over the year, but neither of our 100% free of charge including travel costs are weekend events.
