Had my first difficult shot with the p790ís this week.

Behind a large bush on the left hand side of the fairway with 180y to the pin. Closest visual line was probably 15-20 right of target.

Ball was in fluffy wet grass but I could see the back of it.

Smacked a stunning draw to the front edge of the green with a 6 iron followed by a soft fade 7 iron over bunker two holes later.

The p790ís can be bent !!!!

No chance I could have pulled that shot out the bag with the old rocket bladez.

Everything? I bought these last year and after a switch back to graphite enjoyed them quite a bit. But might be searching for something more.

For SC I might bring the biggest iron heads I can find.

I now have around 25 rounds in with these clubs, with the last 15 or so being with the reshafted 4i and 5i to the stock TT DG 105 shafts, and the rest of the clubs still sporting the TT DG 120s in s400. While these clubs have been the very best clubs I have ever owned in terms of performance, I am still wondering whether my current abilities would benefit from a more forgiving configuration. When I have a perfect swing, these clubs smash the ball and send it flying. I have hit some 7i shots that were incredible and the scoring irons have been very good to me. But on the higher end of the bag, my striking has been more inconsistent, which moves the point of impact on the club face off of the intended and designed location, resulting in a push or fade. No one can expect a golf club to fix a bad swing, of course, but my scoring would benefit from a bit more forgiveness. With all of that said, I am playing much better overall since I started using the p790s and have broken the 100 barrier three times, which is huge for me.

My current plan as I approach the UG3 weekend in March is to put in some serious range time and try to realign my swing mechanics to see if I can get back to hitting the ropes I was finding during the tail end of the ultimate weekend.

How about slapping the M4 4 and 5 iron in at the top. Loads of forgiveness and you should Pic them up cheap.

A shaft change might help you with some elements of the clubs performance but if the swing is completely off a more forgiving head will help much more IMHO.

    TaylorMade P730 and P790 Irons

As I mentioned in another thread, I spent some time at club champion and had some freedom to try a few setups. One of the clubs that intrigued me was the 730 but my spin had always made me shy away from heads of that profile. So I hit the six iron.

First and only shaft setup was with the tour v x flex which has long been my favorite setup.

I got talking with Joey who runs the show and he said best thing for me is to bend it two strong because of my overall flight profile. So he did it for me. And hereís my best.

    Absolute freaking wow.

Thanks, Craig!! I was laughing and shaking my head a lot... And hitting a lot of "yeah right that can't be real" follow up shots. Kind of blew my mind.

Descent was still substantial which means the ball would still play a perfectly reasonable hop and stop kind of landing, nothing ridiculous there.

Still pretty shocked with the numbers I put up yesterday. Wish I'd not shied away from these irons all year purely because they were a blade profile.

The better my swing gets (less steep, more speed) the more I wonder if long term a set of blades really could work for me. Biggest question would be consistence of distance over 10-20-30-40 shots. Last thing I want to do is fight realized distances.
