The Official 2016 MLB Thread

Cool stat: Griffey is the highest drafted player to make the hof (1 overall) and Piazza is the lowest drafted to make hof (1390, 62nd round).

How was he only MVP once in his career? That's crazy

That is crazy when you think about it. He was pretty consistent when he was healthy in both leagues. He seemed to play against guys that had career years

ARod was on his team in Seattle and they often split the vote.

Somewhat interesting story; ARod's firsts season was just outstanding. I thought for sure he'd win the MVP. He didn't, in part because Griffey got some 1st place votes from a Seattle writers. There were whispers they voted for Griffey for "clubhouse" reasons. It seemed incredible his own writers would screw him. Turns out they knew him kind of well, apparently.

Congrats Jr! Well deserved and one of my all time favorites

How was he only MVP once in his career? That's crazy
Probably because his teams never won anything meaningful. I did a quick search and only 2 teams that he was on ever even won a division championship. I'm not saying he wasn't worthy, it's just how it works in MLB.

And I agree it's ridiculous that he wasn't voted in unanimously. Those three should be stripped of their voting rights.

This weeks transactions. A few big ones.

Great piece on the rediculous front office the 98 indians had

• John Hart, general manager
• Dan O'Dowd, assistant GM
• Mark Shapiro, player development director
• Josh Byrnes, scouting director
• Paul DePodesta, advance scout
• Ben Cherington, advance scout
• Neal Huntington, assistant director of Minor League operations
• Chris Antonetti, baseball operations assistant

If you're scoring at home, that's eight current or former general managers, including three eventual club presidents and one future "chief strategic officer" for the Cleveland Browns.

lots of talent there and they used economics to their benefit, signing young guys to extensions when they could get them cheap.

AL Central Champs!

If the Cubs stay there in Vegas I would be tempted to put a decent sum of money on the Under. I also think the Royals are undervalued, but not by a ton.

I dont see indians improving wins with no better off hitting than last year and Brantley out for awhile.

Like a local beat writer said they have made the moves for another 81 win season

A healthy Napoli should help, and Rajai Davis is certainly serviceable. I realize they didn't make a splash, but they have a great rotation. I can see them with more than 81 wins.

That is another one I found pretty interesting, but these won't be what Vegas goes with, plus still lots of offseason left.

Part of me would still like to see them move one of the young arms for a young right handed bat but it seems like theyre hoping to buy time until Clint Frazier is ready for the big leagues. And who knows what a full season of Lindor will do. Hopefully that helps out guys around him in the lineup

They had the chance with Frazier and are just placing too high of a value on starting pitching.

Sure these guys are getting $16M-$25M a year in the open market but that doesnt translate to 1:1 value when trying to acquire a bat

And you guys still have Bradley Zimmer right? I played against him in Georgia. He was very good.

yep, down the road from my house in AA Akron

We also gave you Kaminsky who I think will end up being a solid lefty. The Indians will be fine... It is Cleveland, it isn't like you are used to instant gratification anyway.

We do, but he's averaging like 8 home runs a year

I'll just wait til SI or Peter Gammons predicts them to win the world series....again
