This quote is from 12-8-2014:
I had to re-paint this. I put the THP mallet putter cover on it and the back end poked through the cover and got chipped up pretty badly. The picture above was a Ford black color that my friend did while he still owned a Maaco.
I started this project on June 20 and had several attempts before I finally got a product I was happy with. The first try, I put a second coat on before the first coat was dry and it got creases in it. The second try, I got all the way to the second clear coat but walked it through a spider web on my deck. The third try, I got to just before the clear coat but didn't like the way it was turning out so I sanded it all off and began my fourth (and final) attempt).
The first three times I used Rust-Oleum spray paint with a satin finish (and primer in the same can). When I finished with my second coat on my third try, I really noticed the dings and dents still in the head. So the fourth try, I used actual primer and then a flat black and then a matte finish clear coat. The first coat of primer helped fill in the imperfections, and when it dried I took a 200 grit sandpaper and lightly went over the whole thing to try to level out the primer with the indentions, and then sprayed another coat of primer. Then went with two coats of flat black and two coats of matte finish clear coat.
I already miss the paint with the flecks in it, but it will look better since it won't have the chips. I never did paintfill it as I was putting so well with it the way it was, I didn't want to jinx it! So I don't expect to add any to this new version.
It's all done as of yesterday and I am just letting the final clear coat set before I take it out to use again.
The following posts will be each step of the way on the fourth attempt: Sanded; first primer (I forgot to take pics of the second primer coat); each coat of matte black and the final clear coat and my pics from this morning. It's definitely not perfect, but I am happy with the results and am ready to put this back into play. I am going to use the stock headcover from now on!
