Do any of you folks have a Scotty Tei3 putter? I have a chance to buy one (Newport) from a friend for $100. It appears to be authentic and in good shape and I trust my buddy completely. He bought it new in '97 or '98. I just received my BB-1 last week, but if I can land this one for $100 why the heck not. My main concern is what type of grip and shaftband to put on it to return it to original. I called Scotty Cameron today and was told to mail it in and they would verify its authenticity and return it to stock (for over $250 approx.) if it's authentic. I have no doubt in the seller, I just want to return it to as close to original as possible without taking out a home equity loan. Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks. KCM

Take the deal. This is one of the nicest looking putters created (In my eyes). For $100 you can't go wrong, as long as you trust your buddy of course.

If you putt well with it then go for the deal, if the condition is good enough that you can live with it I would not worry too much about "restoring it" to original condition myself, Just order a Scotty grip from GolfSmith or ebay and slap it on and it will look great.

The Cameron CS charges $195 to do Teryllium putters. This includes full restoration on the head including the insert, new shaft, shaftband, grip and headcover. I guess with shipping both ways you have close to $250.

Another option would be to go to maybe Black Oxide Services and have them restore it. You could then pick up the correct shaftband and grip via eBay. BOS did the original finish on that putter. Putter Lounge is another option. They do very good work as well. Most refinisher's are going to be cheaper than Cameron.

I would say $100 for the putter, as long as the condition is fairly good, is a pretty good price.

i second Hoosier. my dad sent his scotty to putter lounge and with the full resto was still 75-80 cheaper than scotty's cs. it's a great feeling and gorgeous putter on top of that...if you don't, can i buy it? lol

Putter lounge does awesome work. They did my brothers Cameron to a white finish with dark face milling. Came out awesome. For that much coin, you can't go wrong!

Buy it. I have had one since '98 and I still roll it quite often for a change of pace. I cut it down too much a couple of years ago so the weight is off. I am wanting to send it to the Putter Lounge for a restoration but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I appreciate the input guys. In looking at restored models the black finish appears to shine. This putter has no visible rust, but it doesn't shine like a refinished one. I will do some research on The Putter Lounge and see what I decide. Sounds like they do good work from you guy's input. For a $100 I don't think I can go wrong. Thanks again. KCM

There are several finish options at PL. They can finish the black from flat to a blinding shine. Anything you want. I think they also have several "hybrid" finishes where the top can be flat and the bottom, face, and/or back can be shiny.

I just got through reviewing The Putter Lounge website and all I can say is damn! The have completed some wicked refurbs. After seeing what they have done to other teI3s, I can't wait to get started deciding what to do to this one. Their prices look very reasonable. This is a no-brainer to pick-up this putter and send it off to let em work thier magic. KCM

Please do this and post pics when you get it back. I would love to see what you and them do.

Before and after pics please. I will say that if you get a super shiny finish it might be nice to look at but not so nice when the glare hits in the sun.
I have a Studio Design 3 with the original finish and man it's shiny but it doesn't bother me.

I've had one for about 10 years. It's a beautiful putter but I don't really like the feel much anymore. Very 'tocky'.

I am picking the putter up on Friday guys. I have to decide what kind of voodoo to have Putters Lounge work on it (so many options). Part of me is thinking somewhat of a flat finish, to cut down on glare, and having them mill an alignment line onto it. The other option is to have them return it to the original, "brand-new" appearance. I still need to buy a Cameron grip and try to figure out what the original shaftband looked like. I will try my best with the before and after pix. I'm not very computer savvy so I will enlist the aid of the wife or our 12 year-old daughter.

I picked up the teI3 late this afternoon and I must say, after further review, it's in pretty good shape. The shaft band is kind of beat-up but not bad enough that I will replace it. I wiped the head down with a silicone cloth and it shined up nicely. I think I will replace the existing Winn grip with a Cameron grip and do some research on applying a sightline on the flange. I want to find a way to apply a sightline that will not compromise the original finish.

I really like what Putter Lounge has done to some putters, but I think it's best to keep this girl as close to original as possible in the event I decide to move it.

Anyone out there know a failsafe way to buff up the insert? KCM

Cool pickup, got pics? A lot of people would ask why refinish it if it isn't in bad shape? The putter tells a story. Or I can't explain what it's like to get a like "new" putter back either. I have an old refinished SC putter, and it's great telling people that my nice putter is 10 years old, a lot of folks don't know about refinishing.

Hey guys I'm a newbie to the site and Scotty Cameron Putters. But, not a newbie to golf. I figured I could get some good advise here. Picked this baby up at a yard sale. What is it worth and is it worth restoring?
