Playing a golf simulator this afternoon - tips ?

With temps consistently in the teens & 20's the last month ... I'm climbing the walls. Booked a foursome at a golf simulator place - they have dozens of famous courses to play & you play it like a real course - go through all the clubs in your bag. Any tips or what to expect from those who have played one of these simulators ? Thx

It really depends on the quality of simulator. I've had great experiences and also bad experiences. All the feel shots around the green and putting is pretty much worthless. but it could be a great time if you take it for what it's worth. Swinging a club and seeing some (semi) accurate results is always a good thing in winter. Enjoy!

I have always played it like a real course. Play your shot like you normally would. Biggest thing though is to take your scores with a grain of salt. It is just a simulator. If you hit a bad shot, it is what it is. Dont let yourself get frustrated over it. I did the first time and it ruined the experience. Just have fun and play.

Depends on the sim. I've played on a few different ones. The infrared ones are basically worthless for anything other than a video game experience. The high speed camera ones like aboutGolf sims are pretty good. They almost exactly match my Vector launch monitor numbers and the graphics are great. Putting and short wedges take some time to get used to. Could take as long as an hour per person depending on how many shots you each take.

It's fun. Have a few beers and enjoy yourself.

I agree with what everyone else said. Sometimes you just have to laugh at the results of what should have been a good shot but got recorded funny and ended up going way out of bounds. Don't be afraid to hit the mulligan button to keep moving along in a hole and punch out from under trees. Also make the putting "gimmie" range 12' or so to keep things moving. It's irrelevant since the scores are all over the place anyway.

We always set the gimme putts to something crazy like 12'. Makes it easier.

I do that if I play with people who don't ever do it. It takes a time or three to get used to it.

Yeah man. Just have fun with it. It is nice to just get swinging the club again and to burn off a little bit of that rusty feeling... but I think it is best to just enjoy it with a few buds while we are drinking a few buds.

THis may be the best advice ... can't wait to just swing the clubs & knock some of the rust off ...

I find putting and short, feel shots to be difficult on a simulator. Due to the fact that you stand 10' or more back from the screen, depth perception can be difficult to adjust to.

I just played 9 holes last week it was fun we didn't putt at all and short shots and shots from the bunker were tough to get used to but it was fun none the less.

The big thing for me was to not get into the habit of swinging out of my shoes.
    Like others have said...
Just hit your normal shot and don't worry about the score.

The ones that I have played shots that are 100 yards and in are luck and not very accurate. Just focus on making good contact and have fun with it.

I played 9 holes at the PGA SS and it was crap. I don't their simulator to begin with (not super accurate). The short game is too difficult for me. Make gimmies within 12 feet or it'll be torture.

As many have said, take the score with a grain of salt. It's a simulator.

I play on the sim a lot and totally agree with this. Also, the max number of putts should be 2, which means you get one shot to make a long putt. It keeps the game moving since it's so hard to judge speed.
