Not to thread jack the discussion. But, the problem with cabs in Vegas is not that they lack an app. They are more expensive and nickel and dime you to death. Tips, surcharges for fuel and using a credit card or debit card instead of cash. It's ridiculous.
On my last trip out there (December), I took a cab from airport to Ceasar's. Cost was about $35 with tip, etc. I then realized that uber was in Vegas, so I used it for the rest of the trip. Uber from Ceasar's back to airport was about $15. Only trick was that you couldn't be picked up in the regular taxi line. You had to pick up on the other side of the property.
Still -- as long as uber is there, I'll likely not have a car and just uber everywhere. Parking fees for casinos would just solidify that.
Locals with a valid Nevada drivers license will have free parking until Dec. 29, 2016. What's REALLY going to suck now is leaving the parking garages after a big event. It's bad now without being charged for parking, can you imagine leaving and sitting in line forever as one car at a time has to pay...this is going to be fun to watch.
Dave, if you think Ceasar's won't jump on the bandwagon of charging for parking, you're in for a shock. Once people start parking at the casinos with free parking, the casinos will see that they're packed to capacity every night and then realize they're sitting on a goldmine.
I'm an Uber and taxi guy. Charge away or don't, makes no difference to me.
Good for you. I always drive or have a rental car so this sucks. They already charge plenty of money.
Any idea what self parking is going to cost? The other shoe has dropped.
Caesars Entertainment Parking Policy
As a local, all of the Strip properties just lost my business. It may not be much in their eyes, but I won't be the only one no longer patronizing the resorts on the strip. MGM forced many people to park at the free parking resorts such as Caesars since June and I can tell you it's been a nightmare. Leaving resorts with free parking after a show on the weekends can take up to 1 hour.
It may be awhile before we see what impact the locals will have on the strip.
MGM will charge $10/24 hours so they say.Any idea what self parking is going to cost?
It's tough, when we lived in Chicago, paying for parking everywhere was just part of the cost of driving downtown. Parking meters up to 4 bucks an hour, and that was still cheaper than garages. Here in Cleveland, it's much cheaper to park, even in a garage. 10 bucks a day doesn't sound bad, but when you're going from free to that, I can see why the locals are up in arms over it. There are no other options to park by the strip either.MGM will charge $10/24 hours so they say.
Nothing yet from Caesars, but they won't start charging locals till sometime in early 2017. I'll reach out to my friend Dave who has been reporting about the parking fees and ask him.

Hell even as a non-local that just sucks for everyone. My wife and I frequent Vegas and have pondered moving there so this will make things interesting. Sucks all the way around.
