Vegas Strip Charge for Parking - does it change your behavior?

I was just there and we went to Wynn and Palazzo with a local friend valet parking for free.

I will say the cab rides from one hotel to another was a freakin rip off. It was like $14-17 each time... Smh.

Where does it stop? Are they going to charge us to use the bathrooms?

Just heard there will be $4.76 resort fee added to your parking fee. In this $4.76 fee, you will get white lines painted on the garage floor, signs directing you to a exit and a security camera

Sucks for locals.
Out of towners shouldn't care as vegas isnt the spot to try and be economical

Not anymore. Wynn charges for valet starting 12-15-16. Self park is still free

nope not at all. Being gold thru mlife gives me free valet and I don't go anywhere near a CET property.
Cosmo, TI, Wynn and the Trop still have free parking.

I was gold. But I didn't log enough points this year and they bumped me all the way back to Saphire. Sucks

I am not happy. I head there for vacation frequently, have been parking at PH. Now I gotta add that cost to everything else.

This makes flying that much cheaper.

Don't all bigger cities make you pay to park downtown or in populated spots? In the grand scheme of things I don't think the cost is that bad to worry about.

I don't think it's a completely fair comparison. No other city has billion dollar (?) businesses with guaranteed revenue streams (i.e., gambling) which can be used to pay for infrastructure. Other cities need to charge fees to pay for the infrastructure. In Vegas it's just about greed.

Do those other cities (which really it is not the cities we are talking about here) have the expense of said billion dollar businesses though? I take more of an issue with people having to pay for parking in a deck just to go to work in many/most cities. When we are talking parking for entertainment purposes I get it from a business perspective 100%

To do things big and keep changing the way the tourists seem to demand it takes $$$ and all of it adds up. Gaming is down have to get it from other places

Maybe gaming revenue is down because they gauge the hell out of us for everything else. It wasn't always this way. It's a choice.

Casinos don't need to charge a "resort fee" but they do. It's nothing more than a money grab. These resorts are not in it for the losses but for the gains. Gaming is NOT down in Vegas, just the number of people that come here.

Gaming UP 11%

In the long run, people will pay to stay. Over time, the casinos will have losses.

And that makes perfect sense - as casinos increase the total cost of visiting Vegas the pool of people who can afford to do so decreases. But the people who are still able to come to Vegas have more disposable income (on average) so gaming can go up.

At some point that trend will continue enough that market factors will make it viable for a casino to go the other way in order to get people in the door.

I was just in Las Vegas and it's only the MGM properties that are charging for parking. If you are an Mlife member with Saphire rating, you would get free parking anyway.
Just seems like they want everyone to gamble to at least get to that level so they can get free parking. Otherwise, you're going to pay for parking. Makes them money either way.

None of the other hotels have started this policy yet, but I don't anticipate Caesars or The Venetian to follow suit. They have large shopping centers attached to their hotels and forcing customers to pay for parking are going to hurt the businesses in those shopping centers.

Look a page or two back - Caesars properties are following suit.

I don't see the big deal in charging for parking. It happens everywhere. Hell I have to pay to park to go to some malls around me. I even pay to park to go surf at some spots or if I go down to the VA Beach strip I have to pay to go eat at restaurants in the area. Not to mention we pay to park to go to any concerts around here even the small places, almost every city here has meter parking. What is different about that than having to pay to park on the strip? I think Vegas is stupid for not charging years ago. Guess what people are not going to stop showing up because it cost $10 bucks or whatever to park for a day. That is damn good price.

I don't think many people, especially locals, will gamble more just to get free parking. I think what pisses off the locals is the fact that it's seen more as a money grab and no benefit for locals to visit the strip.

Some may say that $10 is nothing to park but when you're in a town that is based mainly on tourism, then maybe they should think about the locals that bring tourist to the strip. I get it, it's a service industry town and they're trying to take advantage of those who come to Vegas. But in the long run, I think people will think twice about coming to Vegas.

You'll spend more to visit with less to gamble.
