With Olympic Golf starting tomorrow, and some golfers having elected not to participate, how would you rank these 9 golf accomplishments:

Winning the Masters
Winning the US Open
Winning the Open
Winning the PGA
Winning the Players Championship
Playing on a Ryder Cup Team
Playing on a Presidents Cup Team
Winning an Olympic Gold Medal
Winning the FedEx Cup

I listed the Majors individually because I am curious to see if an Olympic Gold is ranked higher than any of those.
I listed the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup to see how representing one's country in a team event compares to winning an individual Gold Medal.

Hmmm for me the Olympic gold would be number 1

Gold Medal
Masters
Open
US Open
Ryder Cup
Presidents Cup
Fed Ex Cup
Players Champ
PGA

Winning trumps participation so the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup move to the bottom

Rest of the events with Olympics last

I am actually a little surprised the Olympic golf isn't a little higher on most people's rankings. Over the next 40 years there will be potentially 480 Ryder Cup/Pres. Cup Positions, 160 Major winners, 40 FedEx Cup winners, but only 10 Olympic Gold Medals for golf. Just seems it will be a much rarer achievement.

I don't think the rarity makes it any more special, but that is just my opinion

In some ways I feel the Olympics is just a means to get the less well-known sports onto TV - I am guessing that almost every sport, if not all of them, that is included in the Olympics has its own series of tournaments/championships every year. Maybe they aren't all international and the Olympics gives competitors from across the world the chance to compete against each other, but how many times during the Olympics do you hear about particular competitors being called the current/former world champion(s) in whichever sport they are competing in

I am not knocking the games, I enjoy watching sports that I wouldn't normally see, but like a lot of things these days I think it is becoming more commercialised and seen as an opportunity to make money

I would rank them as follows:

US Open
Masters
Open
PGA
Ryder Cup
Olympics
Players
Presidents Cup
FedEx Cup

At this writing, I think the 4 majors remain the ultimate events in golf. I rank the Ryder Cup higher than the Olympics because the players are actually representing the Country as a team. The Olympics in the current format is still individuals that happen to be from a certain country. To me, the Olympics would have more meaning if it was like gymnastics, both individual and team medals. Also, unlike other Olympic sports, recognizing the best players is a continuous process through tournaments, not based on an every 4 year contest. To me the President's Cup and the FedEx cup are made for TV events.

Would anyone's rankings change if instead of just "playing" on a Ryder Cup or President's Cup it was playing on a "winning" Ryder or President's Cup team?

Awesome thread idea.

This is how it would be for me personally, but I don't think it would be the same if someone was to judge a guy's legend status

1. Winning the Masters
2. Winning The Open
3. Olympic Medal
4. Winning the US Open
5 Winning the PGA
6. Playing on a Ryder Cup Team
7. Playing on a Presidents Cup Team
8. Winning the FedEx Cup
9. Winning the Players Championship

Olympics
Masters
The Open
US Open
FedEx Cup
PGA
Players
Ryder
Presidents

I hope I don't offend anyone by this, but I believe a non American winning gold in the Olympics would have a profound effect on the sport in that country.

Highly unlikely the US will even medal. Gold? No way.

It's not looking good right now. I was hoping Rickie would get off to a good start and be in the hunt. What a rough start.
