Because of the "numbers" problem, my buddy and I have taken to talking about the "slots" in the bag:
- Slot 1: Longest club from the tee (may or may not be a driver)
- Slot 2: Tee back up, may or may not be playable from the fairway
- Slot 3: Long fairway club

Driver: The mouth-watering, sexy IPO
3w: The highly illiquid otc-traded pink sheet in corporate restructuring, always in danger of vanishing into history, it suddenly comes through and gives me putts for eagle before becoming irrelevant again
2h: vanilla Muni bond. Boring, consistent, old...so old in fact that it may also become irrelevant
5i: XOM (Exxon). Time to buy? Hmm.
6i: Biotech fund, good outlook, some risk...
7i: GOOG, likes to think it is king of the bag and backs the arrogance up with performance
8i: GE, is actually the king of the bag without being boastful about it
9i: Overnight repo - easy place to park the cash
PW: 10yr US Treasury futures on a Fed meeting day, a volatile trade
AW: My "risk-free rate", the club to which the performance of all others is measured
54*: The under-subscribed corporate debt issuance, sometimes i can hear it screaming "pick me"
58*: Closed-end income fund - pays nice dividends and is reliable
Putter: Grains, Energy, Precious Metals. One day they're up huge, the next day they're down huge.
