UK Summer Cup 2015

Going to Spain and not play?!
Wish you a speedy recovery my friend!

Ironically there is a course right across the road from where we go but I have not had a round there yet but one day I will see about it

I think it was just a busy weekend and then a good couple of hours at the range was just a bit too much so an enforced break will probably do me good, along with a bit of heat (hopefully)

Evening all. All the best with the back Doc - and enjoy Spain.

I will be confirming 9 rooms tomorrow - therefore 18 players.

There are still rooms and places - but I will have to take them on a as and when basis. So - if you do know anyone - get them to post by midday tomorrow.

Linus - I ll give you the money back - in sterling when you get here - which will save us FX fees - and I daresay you may need a pound or two.

The Danes are arriving on the Friday - so we will be looking for a game on Saturday. They are staying at some Airport joint - I'm not sure where I'll stay yet. So - looking to play near Newcastle airport on Saturday. Thoughts?

Seems like a good plan!
I'm in on playing there on Saturday.. Or anywhere.. Have not decided if I have a car or not but that will be resolved in time!

Cheers El B, week away should do some good and with it being quiet where we go, we will enjoy it as we always do

I will do my best to get out for a round on the Saturday as well but I am not too sure on courses near the airport, maybe Damo can chip in with some suggestions - other than Close House.... :D

Will have a scout about and see if there is anywhere that I can find that might be worth a look

Right o boys.

Deposits paid. Its on.

There are two spaces guaranteed for another week or two - after that it will be 'subject to availability'

Is Rockliffe Hall too far for your Saturday jaunt?

Slaley Hall is just down the road - have you been there before Doc?

Northumberland GC http://www.thengc.co.uk is being used for open quals so should be in good nick. Also 10mins from airport.

Think I posted a page or so ago about possible options including a couple you mentioned :D

Rockliffe Hall is possibly a bit too far for them to head down from the airport, but worth the trip (and 5 mins from my door) and hosted the Seniors Open last August

I haven't played Slaley for quite some time so I don't know what it is like these days

In another thread Damo suggested a Newcastle course for Salisboss when he is over in April, and also Sharpely, neither of which I have played so I can't comment on them

Edit - it was the thread by Salisboss I posted in

Just looked at the Northumberland golf course and personally I think it is expensive considering the layout runs amongst the race course

If I was paying that much I would prefer Rockliffe, and if we tee off after 3.30 it would only be £35 for a round instead of £60 per person assuming we have a 4 ball

Sounds like you need overseas arrivals to land at Durham Tees and travel up with you. :)

There are very few domestic flights from Durham Tees Valley so not sure if it would be possible

And I wouldn't be able to transport them as I will have a car full already (small car and 2 of us with clubs etc)

The 4 closest courses to the airport are:

Westerhope Golf CLub http://official.sportnetwork.net/main/westerhope-golf-club/s718.htm which is 4 miles away (I've not plyed it)

Newcastle United Golf Club http://www.newcastleunitedgolfclub.co.uk/ which is 4.5 miles away. Only played it once, it had 2 foot rough!

City of Newcastle Golf Club http://official.sportnetwork.net/main/s716/ which is 5.6 miles away. Its a lovely course, I've played it several times (two weeks in a row when our course was closed due to snow in January)

http://www.parklandsgolf.co.uk/ which is 7 miles away (I've not played it)

All the above courses are only 10-15 mins away from the airport and prob your best bet if you dont have a hire car. If you do have a hire car then I can point you to a lot more :bananadance:

The Danes are planning on jumping in a cab from their airport hotel to come and play Saturday - and then again a cab to get to Close House for the main event and then again back to the airport.

Obviously, if any of us are able to help them out with any of those transfers, they will be grateful. Probably agree to keep the rape and pillage down to a minimum etc...
.
Linus and I are both going to get there for a round on Saturday. My car is a two seater - and two sets of clubs will be a struggle. Linus may or may not have a hire car. So we are sorted for one four ball + locals if they can shake free...

One by Tom Morris and one by Harry Vardon?

Who knew?

Mid Amateur Mens Open that weekend at Northumberland.

Largest car in our house is a VW Golf. It's Good for either folding the rear seats down and getting quite a bit of gear in. At a push it could prob get 3 people in with 3 carry bags!

Either way, I'm happy to pick up on the way to Close House.

Unfortunately my car is only a Seat Ibiza and I will have Preston with me so 2 bags, push carts and overnight bags means I need to fold the rear seats down so I won't have room for anyone elseIf I am up to Close House early enough on the Sunday morning I may be able to run back along to the airport area to pick someone up if neededI will do my best to make it for a round on Saturday and I will see who I can drag along with me, Preston might be pushing his luck assuming he isn't at work, but I will ask him when you know where you want to play, and I will see if Alex from my badminton club is available seeing as he can't make the Sun / Mon

I'm thinking of driving up on the Saturday and staying at the Travelodge near the airport (£29), wasn't too bothered about playing, more a casual drive up in the afternoon so I'm fresh for the mayhem that follows on Sunday & Monday. I'll confirm I'm doing this over the next few days but if I do (get permission) I drive a large Merc estate so I can take 2 people with all their gear on the Sunday morning to Close House and happy to get them back to the airport on Monday if it helps.

Nice work boys.

i will get my head around who is where when, and we can firm up arrangements.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Would love to join you one day.. Enjoy!

I know everyone talks about how good THP gatherings are, but it is worth the effort, so hopefully you can make it one day

i'll keep an eye out to see if you need 1 more for a fourball on the Sat, i don't have any definite plans as yet so i am flexible

As ever. The more the merrier!

please can someone confirm the entry requirements?
i guess my main impediments are that I'm not a member of club, having only started playing last year with any regularity (I.e. More than a couple of times, 10 rounds in 2014), have no actual handicap, and, probably most importantly, can't drown several pints of the local ale :bashful:
work in progress I think...

Requirements - simply to play golf and have a laugh, don't worry about not being a member anywhere

As for the drinking, there are a few of us that don't drink so no problem there either

Time to grab a couple hours sleep before the alarm goes off at 2am

Will catch up with the details if I can while we are away, otherwise will be in touch when we get back next weekend
