MI/OH and Anyone Else 2015 Gathering - August 29th
Front 9 review:
Hole 1 Par 4 (365 whites / 430 blues)
Two ways to attack this hole. Take less club, and go down the fairway to the left. If you can leave it by the trees at the end of the fairway, you have less than 100y in. Or try the agressive approach and go over the trees to the left of the first fairway. If you hit it good you'll be really close. As long as you don't get blocked by a tree there will be a straightforward approach shot, just don't go left on it. A good chance to score to start the front nine.
Hole 2 Par 4 (395/410)
A hard dogleg left at around 150y to the hole. The approach shot is guarded by water left, right, and long.
Hole 3 Par 4 (425/445)
A semi-blind tee shot to a slight dogleg right that plays shorter than it looks. You run out of room quickly before getting to the stream cutting the green off from the fairway.
Hole 4 Par 3 (190/200)
Don't chunk the tee shot and you should be okay. Unless you hit it just right of the green as I did, and have your ball disappear in the middle of a wide open patch of grass. Still have no idea how that ball got lost.
Hole 5 Par 5 (505/525)
A tight opening part to this tee shot. Go right and you are hitting 3 from somewhere. A good drive will give you a shot at going for the green in 2. A large bunker guards the front of the green. Having to putt to a hole downhill from the ridge in the middle of the green will not be easy.
Hole 6 Par 3 (125/145)
A short par 3. If you thin it like I did, playing from the trash behind the hole is no fun. The front of the green is a false front. Getting on the wrong side of the ridge will make a 2-putt quite the challenge.
Hole 7 Par 4 (335/346)
Yet another hole where the tee shot can determine your fate. Trees line the right side of the tee shot. Left is a fairly safe miss. The green opens up nicely from the left side. If the pin is in the back there is a lot more room for error hitting the green.
Hole 8 Par 4 (305/316)
Long hitters will salivate at this. Grab your driver and go for it. Just don't go too far right, else you might cause an accident on the major roadway running down the right side of the hole.
Hole 9 Par 5 (495/510)
A slight dogleg right. The approach shot will be uphill a bit. If you go too far right off the tee, the grass around the parking lot is technically still in play.
