Probably been answered elsewhere, but I'm not having any luck with the search function.

So, I'm thinking of going all Niblick on the wedge side of my bag, as I was a big fan of the originals...just really fun clubs to play. I've already got the original Zip Groove 42 and 56, but I can't seem to find the 49 anywhere for a fair price. I have, however, seen the newer version a couple of times that were priced more reasonably. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, because I'm uncertain as to how the newer and older clubs will blend together. The question then is: how do the two model runs compared in terms of lie angle, head weight and shape, and appearance? I'm aware of the conforming/non-conforming difference in grooves, and I'm not too concerned with that, but are there any other differences I need to be aware of? Would the three mixed Niblicks flow together okay or would I end up with an awkward kind of setup? And were the newer versions as point-and-shoot as the originals?

Thanks in advance.

I game the Niblick 56 and it changed my game in terms of ease of chipping, pitching and even full shots.
I just bought the new Smart Sole and in terms of looks it is a truly good looking club compared to the Niblick.
I'm holding out playing it though until I get to try the Callaway Sure Out on Monday. Then I'll make a decision on keeping the Smart Sole or using the Sure Out.

Last year I gamed the 37* in the first gen and the 42* and 49* in the new gen. In terms of looks the 1st gen look more like a chipper as they have the white stripe alignment aid. The 2nd gen looks more like a normal wedge.
They both have more upright lie angles compared to normal wedges.

The 1st gen sort of has a stepped sole. The 2nd gen is larger and not stepped.

The 1st gen is 35 1/4"
The 2nd gens I have are 35 1/8"

49* 2nd gen is 478g
42* 2nd gen is 475g
37* 1st gen is 499g but I also have a shaft wrap which is probably around 13-14g so they all weigh pretty much the same.

Here are some pics of the 3 I have. I'm thinking of moving them if anyone is interested. Shoot me a pm.

Good info and pix...thanks. Looks to me like 2nd gen has a little less offset and is more rounded in the toe. (1st gens were pretty boxy looking.) Am I seeing that right?

Wish one of them was the old 56*, been looking for one for several weeks.
