I've been paying more attention to where I'm striking off the clubface with my irons (footspray, contact tape) and I've noticed that I've been out toward the toe. Assuming that swing path and club face are pretty much on target, would the hit off toward the toe promote a draw? I assume that I'd lose distance due to missing the "sweetspot" (center-face strike that takes advantage of the "spring-y" center).

I'm aware of the Gear Effect that can occur with the driver, but I'm wondering if off-center hits on irons can influence ball flight, as well.

I had that miss a lot last year and found that with irons it mostly resulted in blocked shots out to the right or big hooks. Though, the big hooks were from me trying to flip the club in an attempt to hit something other than a block.

This video explains gear effect and how it effects irons/woods pretty well:

Helpful video :D

Center of Gravity location - closer to the face on irons = more twisting around CoG, but less Gear Effect.

I think I've got that right
