Bad timing on the bird's part
 
Probably pining for the fjords.
 
I guess it was just the birds time!!!
 
I've actually done that before. Was teeing off at the course by my house about 4 or 5 years ago and as soon as I made contact a blue jay flew across the front of the tee box and made direct contact with the ball. I'm not sure if I killed the blue jay, but I have a picture somewhere of that bird lying on the cart path.

OK, it was a woodpecker...sorry Blue Jays of the world...

A friend had this happen to him. Before he realized what was going on a hawk came down and picked up the deceased bird.
