Rosetta Stone

Anyone ever used it to learn a language? We get a good discount through my job and are tentatively planning a trip to Italy next year. It seems like a good way to get familiar with the language over the next 12 months. I'd like to not seem like a dumb American if we go plus it would be cool to be able to understand a new language. I got quite rusty on the 2 years of German I took in HS.

I use it to learn Korean. It's a good tool, though the CDs didn't work quite the way I expected and didn't wind up being useful at all.

it's good if you want to speak the language for basic conversations, but it won't help you fully understand the language
