awesome first post updated.

Myndcraft and byron once oyu know for sure just let me know. I do think we only have another 2 weeks on the hotel block so as we get close worse case you can snag a room and then just cancel it if you dont end up coming

Hi friends olde and ones I haven't made yet, I'm looking forward to golfing and hanging out with you!

Okay, I will do a full hole by hole review tomorrow, but a few general thoughts about this course. Played today with jspangs and xhail. A fun day.

The layout is beautiful. People are going to enjoy it. That said, you had better bring your A game off the tee and with the putter. This course demands accuracy off the tee far more than length. It's not that you have to bench your driver, but you have to be really comfortable laterally with it. If so, you can really set yourself up for good scores. If you are wild off the tee, it will be a long day.

The greens were borderline unfair. Hard as a rock and fast. A lot of multi-tiered greens to be found there, and the greens were not overly receptive to holding shots. Some pin placements were just ridiculous, and the greens don't all have nice meaty fat parts to go after. Again, accuracy is king here. It will be a really good test of golf.

I think we are going to have a blast there. Again, look for the hole by hole writeup tomorrow with photos of all but #9 (it got too dark).

I was excited until you started talking about the greens! hahaha. 3-putts FTW

Pretty accurate assessment there Rob. With the multi-tiered greens though iron shots are also very important. Definitely a course that favors accuracy over length. Except for hole #12. That hole is tough!

I will also say in relationship to the greens typically short is better than long.

Good thought, I will take a lot at the hotel info tonight.

MI/OH and Anyone Else 2015 Gathering - August 29th

We started on the back 9, so I am doing the same to keep my thoughts in order.

Hole 10 Par 5 (485 whites / 505 blues)
A semi-blind tee shot greets you to start the back 9. The hole is a dogleg right. If you can skirt the trees on the right with your tee shot you will end up in the right side of the fairway and have a good shot at getting on in two. Anywhere left is a safe miss. Don't miss right. The green is protected by a large bunker on the front left. This is definitely a scoring hole.

Hole 11 Par 4 (350/370)
Leave your driver in the bag. Depending on the tee box, you want to go no more than 200-220 yards on the tee shot here. The fairway ends at a hard dogleg right at the 150 mark. You will then be presented with the most difficult approach shot of the round. A massive tree blocks the green so high ball hitters have the advantage here. Should you have decided to cut the corner you could be inside 100y but the base of the tree is well above the fairway down there so your risk likely gave you a worse approach shot. And the green it protects? It's only 25y deep and anything long is dead. Anything right is likely dead. Anything left is dead. See a theme here? Short left is really the only safe miss here. Par is an EXCELLENT score here.

Hole 12 Par 4 (425/445)
One of the more open fairways, definite driver hole. Fairway funnels shots to the right so aim for the left side. The only real danger would be a topped tee shot or a snap hook left. Otherwise it opens up on both sides. Green is pretty easy to go at. Another good scoring chance.

Hole 13 Par 4 (385/395)
The tee shot needs to be straight here. Water left and a bunker and trees right come into play. Also water cuts the fairway off before the green so you have to think about distance as well. The green is three-tiered and surrounded by trees right and long. A good tee shot can equal a good score.

Hole 14 Par 3 (175/200)
An elevated tee box takes at least 1 club off the distance here. Don't go long, and you can get out of here with a par or better.

9fb35fecae706f6317618a7360190a3c.jpg

Hole 15 Par 4 (350/380)
Another hole where the tee shot can determine your fate. Trees line the right side of the tee shot. Go left and your ball is likely wet. Go too far right and your ball is likely lost. The green is fairly easy to go after on approach shots, the water should not be in play.

Hole 16 Par 5 (475/490)
The tee shot goes through a chute but opens up after that. You do have to clear a marsh area as a forced carry and water is all down the right side. A good drive here should equal a putt or chip for eagle though. It is a peninsula green but there is bailout to the left.

Hole 17 Par 3 (175/190)
A straightforward par 3 hole. Water short and right only comes into play on a mishit.

45874580632bec0cd917efb0726eb6f0.jpg

Hole 18 Par 4 (325/340)
An uphill tee shot awaits you here. Trouble left in terms of long grass. Your approach shot will also be uphill. The green has a big ridge in it that will likely make for a nightmare putt (and a 3-putt when all is said and done) if you are above the hole.

Dang with all those scoring opportunities, we sure didn't take advantage of any of them.

They were mostly qualified with things like "a good drive". Something I had very few of yesterday.

Lol, none of us scored well there, I believe Matt had the only birdie. Even though my out from the trees on 11 should warrant a birdie, lol.

Honestly I left there thinking we all should have scored a lot better. For me at least, 11 was the only hole where I thought there was no way to do anything with that hole. The rest were all self-inflicted wounds, especially off the tee.But I think if you can live on or just off the fairways that a good score is possible on many holes. There are some holes where you need to just limit the potential damage though.
