Just days after learning that Srixon staff member Jim Furyk will be leaving Srixon and heading to TaylorMade, THP has confirmed with multiple sources that 2010 European Tour Co-Player of the Year Graeme McDowell has signed a deal with Srixon for 2011. G-Mac, as he is known, had a monster 2010 finish as he won the Chevron and beat Tiger Woods on Sunday for another championship. Already in possession of the 2010 US Open trophy, he is poised to make a huge run in 2011.
Recently THP learned that McDowell would be leaving his Callaway sponsorship in search of a different deal and that has landed him with Srixon Golf. The buzz we are hearing is that he will carry the Srixon staff bag, wear a Srixon hat, and have a bag of clubs consisting of Srixon irons, Cleveland wedges, and of course the Srixon Z-Star golf ball that so many have been gravitating towards this year. The full count of his clubs is unknown at this point. THP reached out to Cleveland/Srixon Golf and they had no comment.
THP likes the move quite a bit for both sides. McDowell is a larger personality than that of Furyk, who many feel he is replacing as the PGA Tour face of the brand. With his image fitting rather well and the new 2011 equipment from Srixon looking as good as it does early on, we expect quite a year. You should expect to see a lot of G-Mac in 2011 both on the course and in promotions.
Lots of shuffling going on in the world of tour golf in the 2010 offseason and THP has all of your inside information each day.
superb fit for both parties. gmac will be a great assett to the srixon/cleveland team and their products will be showcased by a golfer known for his grit, determination, and heart! i love me some GMac! i bet he’ll love the miyazaki shaft as well!
Cannot say that I’m in love with this move, would rather he had stayed with Callaway. But, it gives Srixon a very high quality and charismatic front man for 2011 and beyond.
Good team combo for GMac & Srixon. Good luck for a great 2011 golf season!
McDowell is cashing in on a great season, not unlike athletes in other sports who command big contracts and often from different teams. Graeme is high profile and likable, and this move could catapult Srixon to heights never before seen. Good luck to both Mac and Srixon in 2011!
We’ve seen this before where a guy has a career season and then signs a big contract with another OEM only to fall back into mediocrity. I hope this doesnt happen with gmac. I love how he plays the game and I love what Cleveland is doing in 2011 so hopefully its a good year for both.
Good pick up by Srixon
The only question – will GMac go yellow?
G-mac is incredible! How could you not like a guy who has no fear whatsoever! Not glad to see him walk away from Callaway, but what a pick up for Srixon!
Good for G-mache had a great year, i hope he does not loose his game this has happened to others in the past Curtis Strange comes to mind?
I am uber pumped about this move! I am absolutely enamored with the new Srixon driver and I think their ZStar and ZStarX balls are two of the best in the business. I really hope Srixon comes out with a painters hat now. My next Guinness will be in honor of Gmac!
He just posted on Twitter:
“No change on Callaway FT Tour Driver, Odyssey #7 putter and Adams hybrids. Still got the old faithfuls in the bag. Bag set up looks great.”
“Also, 13 degree Cleveland Launcher fairway wood and of course the Srixon Z Star golf ball
Cleveland 588 wedges – 47, 51 and 58 lofts.”
