Just two days ago the news became official that boutique putter whiz Logan Olson is officially part of the TaylorMade Golf family, if you weren’t aware of that already, be sure to check out our article here. At the same time, TMaG let the word out that today would be the release of “Craft Batch No. 3 Premium Blade Putters”, so let’s dig into it.
Sure this is Batch No.3 officially, but to be honest, the fact that it’s the first officially out in the open with the TaylorMade marriage between Olson and the company, it’s a little more exciting. If you haven’t been paying attention, Logan Olson may be one of the best minds in golf when it comes to CAD machining and creativity, so it makes sense that this batch of putter’s centers around that DNA combined with extensive modal analysis.
The Design – Logan Olson Craft Batch No. 3
The most eye catching part of this release of blade putters is sure to be the new hosel design, which Olson and TaylorMade are calling the “Flumber’s Neck”. Now, as corny as that name may be, it does make sense. The hosel blends the benefits of traditional neck designs but, according to Olson, is designed also to improve the sound (feel) and give a unique visual at setup by allowing the golfer to see the entire ball while at setup.
For this design, a copious amount of testing was put into getting the sound (feel) and roll correct. By using modal analysis, now available through the partnership with TaylorMade, he was able to pinpoint the problem areas when it came to stress as well as higher resonance at impact. This enabled the precise placement of mass and CG to get feedback that the best players in the world expect. Another part of that came by milling the 303 Stainless Steel face into a horizontal groove pattern, in a style befitting Olson’s flair for the dramatic.
Along with some of the most pristine and eye catching milling lines throughout the body of the blade design, the sole also tells a story. Here, to get the CG directly behind the center of the face, the sole is asymmetrical and uses a channel as well.
The Details
The Craft Batch No. 3 putters have 2.5 degrees of loft with a 70 degree lie angle and eye catching 338g head-weight. Each is milled from 303 Stainless Steel paired with the KBS CT Putter shaft and will be offered in lengths from 33” to 37”. In Olson fashion, they are also finished with a Grip Master leather grip in seven color options, or the Golf Pride Pro Only Red Star. The putter will drop exclusively on www.LoganOlson.com for $850.00.
It happens with Cameron’s too, absolute one off customs, and then they put and Odyssey or Spider in play.
Tour Pro’s aren’t your average golfers lmao

Which is what makes me laugh at us internet golfers chasing crazy expensive putters at times. When the best of the best setting for the standard model putters.

It’s wild to think about, isn’t it? Remember how excited we were for the return of the TP irons? So much damage done since then.

Give me a stock putter all day long! Every time I go fancy, I eventually go back to one of my plain janes and light the greens up again.

Why? It’s about what makes us happy. It’s why I’ve bought the putters I have. There’s not right or wrong, and we sure aren’t tour pros.

I am not talking about the collector mentality, But I do think there is a large portion of golfers that buy the most expensive putter thinking that the price tag will result in more made putts.. Thats all. But, if you want something, get it.. All fine by me..

Price carries expectations, and that does not only go for golf.

no hate at all. Not what I was trying to portray..
My biggest question, is can TM really keep their hands off what he’s doing and let him keep control of these releases. Because historically, they don’t tend to do that.
BUT, if they do, it could be a good little symbiotic relationship. His machining talent and eye for design is without question, but historically his business acumen hasn’t been the best. They could help eachother there, and that’s not even talking about the access he now gets to Tour and design aspects.

Price tags work.
People come through the bike shop all the time, and I’m honest. It goes like this;
“If I buy the $10k bike, will I be faster than I would be on the $5k bike?”
“No, you are the motor, not the bike.”
“But it’s more expensive.”
“You are only as fast as you are”
“Ok, I’ll get the more expensive one then.”

For it to be successful, TM must be hands off. If they get too involved, it will just make it all fall apart.

actually really like the look of this. Not sure if ill attempt to pick it up…..but its christmas season and nothing wrong with treating yourself. Tell the wife “the kids bought it for me”

There won’t be a production line, nor will there be an intended replacement to TP.
That line was a failure overall. It’s never got the traction they hoped, and now it’s a pivot. Olson will be their Circle T guy, Tour driven with small batch releases.
He’s not designing for TM’s main lines either, Spiders and Truss remain, but TP goes away.
That makes total sense. I misread the other article and assumed he was gonna be their SC/Toulon type and not just CT. I’m kinda excited that it’s staying small batch though. Gives him more space to try new things like this neck shape.

I feel like I can putt pretty well with just about anything. I like expensive and shiny not because I think it’ll help me make more just because it’s expensive and shiny but because I like looking at it and how it makes me feel. Look good feel good play good.
valid enough reason for me. Play what you want. I just find the tour usage here interesting. Thats all. But they get everything for free so not 100% a direct correlation.
That’s a nice looking putter. I think I want one. Limited edition… means how limited? 10 made? 100? 1,000? Are Olson putters as rare as hens teeth? Or is there a chance I could get one? Left handed.

No lefties this release to my knowledge.
