UPDATE! TESTERS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED! STAY TUNED FOR ANOTHER GREAT FORUM TESTING SIGNUP COMING UP SOON.
At THP, we believe that testing should be done not only by us, but also by the golfers just like you. One of the cool features about being an active member of the THP Forum is that we look to you guys/gals, the consumers, to give feedback on equipment to golfers all around the world. Each month we send out iron sets, drivers, hybrids, putters, trainings aids and golf balls to our active members to be a part of the THP Forum Member testing.
Earlier today, THP Live (if you missed it, watch above) had guest David Neville from Callaway Golf on to discuss the latest lineup of equipment and answer your questions. During that stream, we mentioned giving a bunch away to THPers to test and review on the forum.
Each participant chosen will receive either a new driver or hybrid from the lineup. Your job will be to review the new Big Bertha B-21 for a period of 30 days. Like all of the forum testing, you must be able to check in daily (or close to it) to discuss and answer questions. At the end of the testing period, the club is yours to keep.
How to Sign Up
We will select 10 THPers to review the equipment. (5 for each)
What is your current driver and hybrid?
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
We will announce the testers next week in a new thread on the THP Forum and then get these shipped out to you.
Current Driver Titleist TS3 hybrid is TM R15 Black 3
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
He answered my question. The new BB21 hybrid has been successful for golfers who have not been able to hit them well in the past. 70gs of perimeter weighting should give a lot of confidence to anyone.
Currently playing: Ping LST Driver/Apex ’19 Hybrids
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream? I think the thing that interests me most about this release was the point he made about them going back to their roots with this release as an SGI brand while others are kind of moving away. It’s an interesting niche in a space Callaway has done very well with historically.
1. My current driver is the Callaway XR Speed and honestly I got it at the time because I didn’t have a driver and was just starting to golf. My current hybrid is an old Acuity hybrid but it works haha!
2. The thing I liked most that Dnevs said was how they’re open to using the B-52 for the next Big Bertha! But seriously, I’d say it was super nice to have our questions answered and when he was talking about who the driver is fit for all I could think about is wanting to get my hands on it!!
Current Hybrid: Ping G410 4H. But use Cobra Speedzone 4i instead because I hit it much better.
What I liked most: Hearing that the design team enjoys creating clubs of us average Hackers more so than the elite pro level. Knowing that they get to help golfers enjoy the game more.
Driver: Cobra King F9 Speedback 10.5*
Hybrid: Cobra King F8 One Length 19*
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
I liked that Dnevs gave some comparisons of this B21 lineup against the Mavrik lineup through the live stream.
Going more in-depth really helped paint a picture of how these clubs will play and look at address before we get to see them in-person.
Fairways are Squareways, (I dig Callaways bro, come at me!)
I like square setup, low spin and forgiveness…….trifecta!
hybrid: none. Can’t hit em. I could provide detailed #s on how far tops travel with one.
My favorite part of the stream was hearing the driver is designed to be lower spin than the Epic Flash. Wasn’t expecting that, and ups my interest considerably in this release.
I’m very interested in the numbers stated by both JB and DNevs of a 700RPM reduction. When he was talking about testers having 3k RPMs, I was like, aww, 3k, that’s cute.
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream? I am high spin/swing speed player and struggle with coming across the ball with my driver, which produces high/spinny misses to the right.
I loved that Dnevs that the B21 is a low spin, forgiving driver that helps straigthen out the miss to the right because that is something that has not been done before and is exactly what I need. I am super excited about this release and would love to be a tester.
I loved it when Dnevs said the Betha ’21 has the same spin profile as the Flash SZ but way more forgiveness.
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream? My miss is often to the right due to coming over the top and lots of side spin. When DNevs stated that this driver reduces the sidespin and reduces the chance of slicing it was as if he was talking directly to me. He stated that it turns the tee box into a point and shoot moment rather then aiming all the way to the left. This driver sounds like a cheat code.
What I liked about what DNevs said was two words: longer and straighter. Although I really don’t fight a slice, I have a slower swing speed, I’m steep and I come over the top. I lose significant distance as a result. Longer and straighter and reduced spin would be very good for me.
The thing that stood out to me the most was Dnevs pointing out the spin reduction and even though it helps minimize the slice, it is not draw bias where everything goes left.
What I liked best was that the driver was designed to be lower spin. Super forgiveness with low spin is win- win.
Driver – TaylorMade M6
Hybrid – Nike Vapor Fly 3 Hybrid and Sub70 939X 4 Hybrid
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
Slice Killer. For as long as I’ve been golfing I’ve been fighting the dreaded slice. I’m really interested to see if this can cure that fear that I have and if it truly still gives me the forgiveness I’m looking for.
Thanks to Callaway and THP for this live stream! Lots of great information.
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream? I was very interested hearing DNevs talk about how the setup is square on the driver yet the spin is reduced with forgiveness! I’ve played my driver "closed" for years to fight the right side of the fairway so it will be interesting to see what a square setup can do for me with this technology!
What I liked best was the discussion on how you aim this one where you want to go. My miss is a slice, so when my drive is off, I often have to aim left of the fairway.
Hybrid-Ben Hogan VKTR 18*-22*-26*
I have always battled a hard slice with the driver! After working on my swing this year, it has gotten better, but still shows up quite often. The technology that Dnevs talked about…low spin, forgiving, anti-slice, etc. makes it seem like it was tailored for me!
Current Driver is Epic Flash 9.0
Current Hybrid is 2019 Big Bertha 4h
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
What I liked the most was in their testing, the testers were aiming to the far left to get their "Banana Ball" in the fairway and how the B21 Driver design reduces sidespin along with helping diminish "Slice" Drives.
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream? Low Spin & Not Hook biased for Driver.
I need a more forgiving and consistent Driver.
Hybrid depends on day/mood/course/moon cycle/etc lol, between Tour Edge HL3 4 iron-wood and Wilson Staff FG Tour F5.
Just love all things Big Bertha, nostalgic for many of us. Enjoyed hearing about the low spin and squarer setup, which I prefer. Love to put either of these, especially hybrid, through the testing ringer. Shallower face, shorter shaft, BOOM
Exciting hearing that the design team preferred making the clubs for me and not the average your player. You’d think marketing would push them to focus on the tour player but great to hear they are sticking to their roots.
I most liked what Dnevs said about this being a low spin, slice killing, forgiving driver without any offset. It really sounds like a unique offering with no offset while offering forgiveness across the face. Slicing hackers want low spin drivers too!?
Currently playing a ST200 Mizuno at 10.5° for a driver with CLK 3,4 and, 5 hybrids.
My favorite take away from the live stream was:
As my long time issue I’ve been fighting is a slice, it was very intriguing to hear about all the tech they have put into the BB21 driver to combat this fault.
About Dnevs, he is not a slicer (=He is a HOOKER!).
Current Hybrid: Titlist H1818. 23 and 27 degree and occasionally 19.
Love the discussion on how the B-21 compares to current Callaway lineup and getting an understanding of how it would fit me personally as I listened. I would love to be chosen for this testing. I think I would provide feedback who has been working very hard to go from beginner to intermediate in the last year and the B-21 would be awesome to provide feed back for.
Driver: Epic Flash 9* -1/D with weight all the way to D.
Hybrid: Not currently gaming one
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
I really liked the fact that he said the people with spin rates on the driver over 3k were seeing a 6-700 drop in spin rate which tells me this is a spin killer. This is a good thing for us that loose the ball right as our miss.
Good luck to everyone and thanks THP and Callaway for the opportunity! You guys rock!!
Current hybrids: Cleveland Launcher Halo 3h/4h, Miyazaki C.Kua 6R shaft (regular flex)
Anti-slice with no draw bias?? If what I heard in the stream was true, I am very intrigued by BB-21!!
(2) drivers: PING G, 9-degree, Aldila S, 46" / Titleist 915 D3, 8.5 degree, Diamana S, 44.5"
Hybrid: Zevo, 19-degree Stiff
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
I liked the claims he made about the dramatic reduction in spin, and I really liked that JB was able to substantiate the claim. I’m curious about the "reduced face progression" also.
The hybrid I use is an OLD TM Rescue Fairway #5, regular flex with Golf Pride, mcc +4 midsize +2 wraps grip..
Although a fade or slice is not my usual ball flight, I do like what was discussed concerning the tendency of these clubs to actively negate that tendency.
* If I’m lucky enough to be chosen, but the clubs are not compatible with what I play (e.g., stiffer flex, lower loft, etc…) please delete my name and choose someone else who could better gauge and review the clubs.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Hybrids are Cobra that I like a lot, the Callaway hybrids like the driver are for me. I hardly find the fairway which means I’m in the ruff. Any help getting out would be greaaaaat.
For me the best part of the video was the B21 is draw biased without promoting a hook and the way he described how easy the FW woods/Hybrids launched.
The Mavrik has narrowed the width of my fade that in the past was a slice, I’m hoping BB21 can narrow it more.
Epic Flash set at 9.5 degrees
Apex 4 23 degrees
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
I had some concerns about this driver, mainly that it was just another offset that won’t work for me. I liked his discussion of Reduced Face Progression that does not require the driver to be offset and that it sets up square. Also less spin and draw bias to reduce my occasional slice. Yes please.
Good luck everyone.
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream? As someone who still struggles with the right miss and who has tried draw bias clubs before(and hooked badly) I loved that not only does it help with the right miss it also doesnt over draw!
Current Driver and Hybrid: Cobra F9 Speedback Driver and Tour Edge EXS 220 #2 Hybrid.
Favorite thing in the live stream: I was surprised to hear from Dnevs that the faces of this new line are so unique. I would think that the AI face would be similar to the Mavrik but they are extremely unique and specific for each club, loft etc. AI is super fascinating and I love the way Callaway uses it.
My current driver is a Calloway 588 Custom with a 10.5 degree loft. I don’t have a hybrid yet although it was going to be on this year’s Christmas list!
I most appreciated the way Dnevs described Calloway’s approach in considering feedback not only from the robot and tour pros, but also from the consumers. I believe he mentioned using high handicappers of 17+ . This makes me believe that the product line isn’t just quality but is also appropriate for average players like me!
Thanks for your consideration.
Driver – 9? Mavrik – HZRDUS Yellow 65 6.0 – Currently lofted up to 10?
Hybrid – Rogue 3&4 – Stock Aldila Synergy Stiff
I was most interested in the part where he discussed the why of going with their own shaft in this offering. Always curious why some OEMs do that and some don’t. I want to know which shaft manufacturer they’re working with now though! Also appreciated that he recommended everyone get fit for this one regardless of the shaft pairing.
driver: taylormade M5 9* stiff
hybrid: callaway 2 hyrbrid maverick and ping 410 4 hybrid
how could anyone not like: "low spin", "forgiveness", "straighter" and "longer"…..all key words for guys like myself who can struggle with everything listed here. "point it where you want to hit it"….oh yeah
Cobra F-MAX offset and Hybrid Cobra F-MAX 4
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
Great in depth and insight to what people want to know. Also more about the subject matter then about personal preference.
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream? Love the idea of the active tip section in the RCH shaft. Carbon fiber tip is intriguing & interested to see how easy it is to launch. The head design helps my miss to the right? I’d love to see it
M3 9.5 Driver with Accra TZ6
TourEdge CBX119 Hybrid EvenFlow Black
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
Talking about the reason why they brought back the RCH Shafts. The old RCH ProSeries Shafts were legendary and this brought me back to wanting one of those black ProSeries shafts in my GBB driver as a teenager
Current Driver: Callaway RAZR X Black driver, Hybird: Callaway RAZR Black 4
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
I liked the fact that he was answering the live questions that were coming in. I also liked when he was talking about the spin profile of the driver is similar to epic flash subzero and how he mentioned the b-21 hybird has a bigger head w/ a lot of offset that makes it easy to launch which was similar to a shallow iron head face. Sounds interesting.
Mavrik 10.5 and Big Bertha OS 3-6H
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?
Most excited to hear about the low spin
What really struck me was saying that even reviewers who hadn’t historically been pro-Callaway agreed that the Big Bertha B21 line does exactly what is advertised.
What do you like most about what Dnevs said in the live stream?- Too many to list, but I’ve fought a slice with every driver/wood/hybrid I’ve ever hit. It’s encouraging to hear about the lower spin and potential help the B21 line could give me.
I began tracking my strokes gained and other stats in 2019 and my Driver game costs me the most stroke by a VERY wide margin over other facets of my game. I’m very hopeful that the B-21 isn’t just another driver meant for a sub 5 handicap dressed in a 16 handicappers outfit.
You should watch the video
Good luck to all and one heck of a tester
