At THP, we believe that testing should be done not only by us, but also by golfers just like you. One of the cool features about being an active member of the THP Forum is that we look to you guys/gals, the consumers, to give feedback on equipment to golfers all around the world. Each month we send out iron sets, drivers, hybrids, putters, trainings aids and golf balls to our active members to be a part of the THP Forum Member testing. So, who wants to test the brand new KBS PGW Driver Shaft?

KBS PGW Shaft
Extending the ‘Players’ KBS line of popular Graphite performance products, which includes the PGH – Players Graphite Hybrid – and the PGI – Players Graphite Iron – the PGW is a Mid Torque shaft for slightly lower swing speeds than Tour Professionals and features a lower Centre of Gravity enabling golfers to achieve a mid to higher launching fairway finder.
“The PGW is a true fairway finder for the better range of player and who wants to get the ball airborne without losing distance,” said KBS Director of R&D and Master shaft-maker Kim Braly. “This shaft has been years in the making going through exhaustive testing periods to get it to where we want it to be and that’s offering golfers the best stability and reliability in their golf shaft on the market,” he added.
Criteria
We will select a group of 6 THPers that will join THP’s Education Director @Jman for this testing. If selected you will get a rundown prior to ordering of the posting and review expectations. If you have questions beforehand, do not hesitate to ask below.
You must be able to check in on the forum thread daily (or close to it) to discuss and answer questions.
Please note: You will be reviewing the golf shaft for a period of two months and then it is yours to keep. If you cannot commit to this length of testing please do not signup.

@Jman would you say a good review would require launch monitor data for this? Just want to be sure before signing up.
I’m a big believer that some of the best golf shaft reviews don’t have monitor data. There’s so much about a driver shaft that can be talked about which allows a bigger picture to be told of how it works for the tester.
One of the big things I’ve really started trying to make sure is clear when our testing messages go out is that data should be a topping, and additive, not the whole meal.
Im not @Jman but Absolutely NOT.
Shafts dont change data that much.
Feel, kick, performance seen, etc are all just as important.

ALL of this.

What’s different about shafts than anything else? I’m not very good at describing sound and struggle with describing feel. I don’t put a ton of stock in what others have to say about feel since we all have different opinions and will react differently to the shaft. Having just gone through a driver fitting, it’s much easier for me to talk about which shaft I felt more comfortable swinging, which one allowed me to square up the club face and worked well with my swing. For on course testing, it’s all about the results, fairways hit, am I losing any strokes off the tee, how’s the launch, height, am I am seeing my normal ball flight–things like that. And if we find out more about the shaft, does it do what it is designed to do.
I have a suspicion you would be much better at this than you think and your #funwithspreadsheets would be a fun addition to the testing.
Step 1 – Fujikura Ventus Blue TR5s
Step 2 – Callaway AiSmoke Max
Step 3 – I have been in the mid 50g range for my last couple of shafts the Ventus Blue 5s and the GD ADDi 5s. Swingspeed I am probably on the edge of being able to go regular flex but my miss is left which I like to avoid.
Really like the looks of this timing mechanism.
Step 1 – Graphite Design Tour AD CQ 6S
Step 2 – Titleist GT3
Step 3 – Typically play a 60g stiff, though I have been thinking about dropping down to a 50g stiff.
There’s SO many questions that even I have surrounding this one. Love that we are getting new KBS into the hands of THP’ers to put it though it’s paces.
Thanks THP and KBS for the great opportunity! I always really enjoy these test and review opportunities, and testing a new driver shaft is always a good time.

AI smoke Max D
Step 3 – What Flex and Weight do you typically play?
60g R
Would like to participate but not looking to change my driver.
If open, I would like to test this in my 3-wood as my current shaft is giving me a very low launch angle and looking to get a higher ball flight.
The courses I play require a lot of positioning, so I use the 3-wood a lot off the tee and in the fairway.
Step 1 – Hzrdus 4g 70g 6.0
Step 2 – Will go into a Titleist TSR3 15° 3-wood
Step 3 – Stiff flex, 70g range.
Thanks for your consideration.
MM
Keep them coming everyone! This will be a fun one, we will all have lots to learn and experience!
Would love to try it. But it might interfere with my other equipment testing. Good luck to those entering.

I have had that highlighted since seeing this testing. Not sure what better range of player means exactly but high launch low spin sounds amazing.

Hasn’t VA figured it out and made all of their shafts this way?
KBS TD
TM Stealth 2 HD 9*
60 Cat 2
Slightly lower swing speeds than Tour players. I wonder what they mean by that. I know we’ll learn more through this process. Can’t help but think, even with the wide range of weights and flex’s, this is a shaft that needs a certain threshold of speed to unlock it’s potential.
