Mizuno Golf has long been a leader in the club fitting space, with the most obvious example being when they introduced Mizuno Shaft Optimizer many years ago. While fitting technology has exploded in recent years, the industry hadn’t really seen anything like the Optimizer when it came out. The company is continuing to press forward in the fitting and customization space in 2025, using the mission statement “Reach Beyond”. The all-new Mizuno M Craft X Putters are a great example of reaching beyond the norm, as they combine advanced adjustability with the precision craftsmanship and feel that the company is known for.
Imagine for a moment that you could pick from a pile of parts and design your own putter. What would you come up with? Believe it or not, at some level Mizuno is delivering that exact option with the M. Craft X line of putters. While there are essentially three core mallet shapes available, the options to customize are impressive. Let’s first see what this impressive new line offers consumers.
Unparalleled Adjustability Meets Forged Precision
Mizuno’s describes the M. Craft X line as the point where customization meets precision. It all starts with a forged, 1025 Carbon steel face and neck. This is how the company introduces forged precision into the line, and they further ensure premium feel with a CNC-Milled face. The company’s lineage is steeped in feel and responsiveness, and they are taking no shortcuts in manufacturing this piece of the M. Craft X package. From a technology perspective, this component also provides benefits. It places the bulk of the putter head’s weight forward towards the face, giving these mallets the feel and control golfers would normally expect from a blade.
Three different forged face and neck options are available in the M. Craft X line – Plumber, Slant, and Bend. While the face itself is the constant in this equation, the three different neck choices give users the ability to match the head with their stroke type.
Back Shapes and Interchangeable Weights
Here’s where it gets even cooler. The next part of the putter consumers can choose is the back shape. Each is a mallet of some sort, milled from aerospace-grade aluminum. As of today, Mizuno is offering the Four (Squared Mallet), Five (Round Mallet), and Six (Wing Mallet) shapes, each of which can be combined with the three neck choice to create a total of nine different head and neck options. Cool, right?
The benefit of the milled aerospace-grade aluminum backs is that they provide the stability, alignment, and MOI benefits of a mallet without interfering with the benefits the weight-forward design of the carbon steel face deliver. All the things golfers love about blades like feel, tactile feedback, and face control are still there, but along with the technological advantages mallets have.
To tie the whole package together, Mizuno is using interchange weights at 7g, 14g, and 21g. These weights actually secure the aluminum back shapes to forged face/neck the golfer chooses, fastening the entire package into one piece. Of course, these different weight options greatly increase the fitting and customization options for the individual. We all have weight preferences with putters, whether we know it or not. The right weight encourages the smoothest stroke possible and the most consistent speed control, making this last piece vital.
Finishing Touches and Details
With all the advanced technological concepts Mizuno put into the M. Craft X putter line, they wanted to give a nod to the past as well. They’ve gripped the line with a Lamkin Sink Fit grip in a 1906 mosaic pattern to acknowledge the year of their inception. In addition to the grip, the headcover features this same design. In all, the total package illustrates the company’s commitment to “reaching beyond” while honoring its past.

Were you allowed to try them on the putting green by chance?
I did not unfortunately. They brought them out around the firepit the last night. Not sure if any of the other guys did.
Very cool concept. The Specifications link didn’t seem to work for me. I was looking for the toe-down spec with the fang and mallet backs. The other issue I have with them is a “me personally” issue. No sightlines on the fang.
But again a great concept in modularity. Well done.

You know I never even noticed that. Interesting point.

I corrected my OP. There is a small sight line on the mallet but not on the fang.
This is a really cool idea, allowing for customers to get their preferred putter shape with the hosel type of their choice and potentially allowing golf crazy individuals the ability to change the backing if they want to go a different direction. I wonder how many other putter shapes we will see them come out with as available backings.
Gosh, I can only imagine the tinkering people could do with these!! Can’t even tell they are modular either. Any idea how much a new back would be if you wanted to experiment?
Oh wow I love this. Great way to differentiate in the market.

I am waiting to see that info pop up on the Mizuno site. I think they had said $150 for additional backs but I may be mistaken.
man these look so damn cool
Looking at it person, you would not be able to tell it was modular. At least I couldn’t. It looked seamless and a like very high quality putter.

I don’t believe it was happening right away and not sure of that price either. I feel like it was more but can’t recall.

It was information overload at that point!
These are pretty darn cool! Sounds like a tinkerer’s dream.
Will this make you pick up a Mizuno putter if your store carries them?
Really cool.
Just to be clear, you don’t get all three shapes and all 6 weights? Ordering just one shape and one set of weights?

Would definitely make me try it out and try some different shapes
They seem to do a good job of options in a fit cart too so would be curious how a putter fit cart could be set up in retail
I like the idea of adjustability. Plus the feel of Mizuno 😉 interested to see how they do

That’s a good question. I love the look of the Mizuno putters, but have always been more of an insert guy. I really want to find a good milled putter and give it a shot though, so maybe one of these will push me over the edge and I’ll give it a try this year. I’ll be looking for them in-store to try, without a doubt.

I would love to see a promotion where the price included more than one head shape/backing. That would be a great differentiator IMO.
Seamless is right. I was basically studying the putter at the firepit trying to figure out how to take it apart. It took awhile and I think the slides showed us how it fit together before I figured it out. The fit and finish was unsurprisingly top notch and I never would have guessed it was modular.
Yeah, I can’t remember details on pricing but I remember thinking it was low enough that I’d pick up a spare back piece for when the putter started acting up.
If the bent neck produces a face balanced zero toe hang, I’ll certainly take a long look.

I’m already gaming an M Craft putter but even if my store doesn’t carry this I’ll probably pick one up. The six will probably be my parts pickup and I’ll go with the four off the bat. Just to have a different look.
Great Write Up @Hawk
Great write-up @Hawk! Putters look really good and a tinkerer’s dream. Similar concept to what Edel did with the modularity, but will be interesting to see how Mizuno takes these to retail given they have a strong presence in all the major retailers.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. Well written @Hawk I have made no secret about it, I hate putters. I have one that I kinda like and thats about the end of it for me. I really, really dig this. I might have to take the plunge.
Great article, thanks @Hawk
Very interesting concept with the typical Mizuno attention to detail. I’m looking forward to rolling a few once they arrive my local course.
Great looking putter and love the adjustability.
Great writeup @Hawk!
This reminds be a bit of the Edel Array modularity, albeit much more straightforward. I like seeing a more mainstream OEM getting into something similar. They’re Mizunos so of course they look excellent, but being able to get any shape and hosel config is a great feature IMO. Also great for fitters who can dial all of that in right there on the putting green/mat for their customers. I doubt that many outside the lunatic fringe will buy multiple components to mix/match but definitely a tinkerer’s dream.

Haha no you do not get all 3 shapes
Do we know anything about lefty options in these? I can’t find any info in the article or on the website.

Very cool concept! Reminds me of the “machine” putters from back in the day, but these are way more accessible!

These are fricking sick!
Is Mizuno anticipating this to require a lot of fitter education on how to work through different combos and do the fitting efficiently given all the different combinations of head/hosel/weights? I know some folks had hit or miss experiences with fitters on the Edel Array customization / fitting process, though that had a different element of aim bias.
Sure, I get that, but what about the weights?
I’ve been so damn busy I just now got to stop and look at this one. This is good stuff Hawk, honestly I’m a little indifferent.
I get the concept, but they’re a little industrial to my eye from pics. Plus, I thought the way they’d gone about their putters to this point was perfect, so a change takes me aback a little.
That said, I can’t wait to see them in hand at the show.
Pretty cool idea…will be interesting to see if and how this lineup expands and evolves
I like that the weights hold the two main parts together
This is such a cool concept. The putters look fantastic as well. Mizuno is really killing it with their recent releases.

I don’t believe weight kits come with the putters this time. Feels like there was a lot of waste with that.
Cool concept, and of course Mizuno looks to have done an amazing job with it, but I have a Mizuno M-Craft VI already that is so good there’s no way I’d be looking to replace it.
I love my Array F2 but I am extremely interested in the S6
