When Mizuno Golf entered golf balls in an official manner stateside, there were many who wondered just how serious they were about it. In all honesty, it was a fair question as it is one of the hardest areas of equipment to make your mark and gain ground if you aren’t all in on it. What they didn’t realize was that as a brand, Mizuno was not new to golf balls, nor do they ever do anything halfway. Introducing the new Mizuno Pro golf balls.
As they put it, Mizuno has a “relentless pursuit of performance excellence”, and the evolution their Tour golf balls have taken certainly showcases that. Enough so, that this newest iteration is getting a new name and joining the Mizuno Pro family.
It is time to unveil the Mizuno Pro S and Mizuno Pro X golf balls.
Why Mizuno Pro Golf Balls?
Reality is that with RB Tour and RB Tour X, Mizuno Golf made some real strides with each version. From the material innovation to the application, they underwent large changes over time, but Mizuno believed they could do more.
The primary goal with the next designs was a simple, yet daunting, to match or exceed the performance traits of the most popular two golf balls on Tour. As if that wasn’t enough, they also acknowledged that for the sake of amateurs the durability and green side performance had to take leaps in development as well.
This time around Mizuno have created golf balls with thinner urethane covers for more speed, a thicker mantle layer for higher COR, they have turned the compression down resulting in a softer feel, and have totally re-done the dimples by introducing the Axial Flow 332 design. That new dimple pattern puts sixty more dimples on the surface than before and they are now a smaller more conventional size providing better coverage of the ball and a more “normal” look for golfers.
All of these changes added up to creating a duo which have a trajectory very close to the top two golf balls on Tour. Not to mention, in testing they work to a higher apex with better descent off of the irons, but keep a lower flight off the tee while having a shallower angle to maximize distance. Don’t worry though, based on internal testing the lower compression has also created a preferred feel significantly better than with the RB Tour off of both the putter and wedges.
Now, after taking all of this R&D into account and after creating ninety-nine different prototypes since 2023, Mizuno felt that there was also need for a more premium overall visual. So, the decision to brand them the Mizuno Pro S and Mizuno Pro X was an easy one as the technology and development behind them certainly live up to demands of Mizuno Pro.
Mizuno Pro S Golf Ball
The Mizuno Pro S is a three-piece golf ball which has a high-speed ionomer mantle, soft butadiene rubber core, and ultra-soft urethane cover. It features the Axial Flow 332 dimple pattern and is all about the softest feel with precise control.
According to Mizuno, the S is the softer of the two designs and brings lower spin off the tee along with moderate short game spin. Overall, the cover here is 12% thinner while the mantle is 6% thicker than in Tour RB, which means more speed and distance with more responsive feedback on approach shots. This is classified as a mid-trajectory golf ball, ideal for those who want a more penetrating overall ball flight with the softest feel and low-spin precision.
Mizuno Pro X Golf Ball
The Mizuno Pro X is also a three-piece golf ball, but it utilizes a high-speed ionomer mantle, more firm butadiene rubber core, and ultra-soft urethane cover. The X also uses the Axial Flow 332 dimple pattern and underwent the same changes to mantle as well as core thickness that the S did, here bringing more explosive ball speed to the table without sacrificing control.
Mizuno is touting the X as the golf ball which is ideal for those who want a soft feel with balanced spin control. The X will also be the model with a higher overall trajectory ideal for attacking greens. Overall, this is the golf ball which will also classify as the higher spinning of the two.
The Details
It certainly appears that Mizuno Golf has done their due diligence and then some to create a pair of golf ball options which could very well turn heads with their performance and fitting potential. With the improved aesthetics and Mizuno Pro name, it will be fun to see how they are accepted in 2025.
Both the Mizuno Pro S and Mizuno Pro X will officially release during the 2025 PGA Merchandise Show and come with a $47.99 price tag.

50y partials. Old man 7i’s. 110mph driver.
And some thoughts on how the balls look at the end of all of it.
Not that I’m too demanding tho. ?

???? Your wish is granted. I’ll try to bring it old man style. ?
Tomorrow, I will be alternating S and X by hole. Weather will be upper 40s (hopefully) by tee off. @OldandStiff might have a better testing environment ?
Great write up @Jman . Was interested in the RB Tour balls last year but never had a chance to get some. Definitely very intrigued by these Mizuno Pro. Love the packaging as well. I think the X is what I’d use.

Thank you!
Yeah, the packaging should make for some real shelf appeal. I dig it as well
Really excited about this release! Since the VC, I’ve been holding off on buying any golf balls because these will be my new primary.
First off, I think the logo update is a homerun! Add to that, the alignment aid is spot on great. Maybe it’s me, but the arrows seem to be straight and defy the curvature of the ball like so many others I’ve played. I played the prior RB line and like others have said, the logo is a mystery to most people. I like the Mizuno Pro statement these balls make!!
I’ve been going back and forth between the S and the X and really like them both for different reasons. The ball flight off the tee of the S is my preferred mid-trajectory and the feel around the greens is everything to me. However, the X seems more durable and has a sound/feel that makes me think it’s going further. Both perform equally well and provide plenty of stopping power. I’ve had no issues flighting down either ball and distance is equal to anything on the market. I have both in my bag along with some Pro v1 and x. Like Vosh said in the video, the Mizunos do feel overall softer and to my eye, the finish appears to be a softer white. Again, maybe that’s just me.
The real test for me is off the putter. Feel is subjective, but the Mizuno ball provides a welcomed feedback off my TM putter. I would say both balls provide very similar feedback to my hands and ears. Again, the alignment aid is huge plus. Not everyone uses the writing or alignment aids on the ball, but I’m glad Mizuno took the time to create a straight aid with arrows on both ends. Really nice touch IMO. I’ll be placing an order for 2 dozen of each and will continue to compare the two to see which works best for me.
Great write up again @Jman. Thanks for all the you do!
Holy different sound profiles off the partial wedge. Wow. That’s some separation.

Oh you absolutely know which one you’re hitting. By sound alone.

So I’ve seen some things talking about pretty big separation in the wedge stuff between them. I’m really not seeing that here. That was a lot of shots. Couple hundred revs maybe. Mostly on the same strikes towards the low end. Top end spin was about the same. Could clip both when I wanted to and spin them up. Definitely know when you clip the X with the different feedback.

Interesting. I kinda expected more variance between the two. Really interesting development on the obvious sound and feel differences. The assumption is the S is playing the soft end of the spectrum and the X is playing on the higher end of the firm side?
A lot of shots huh? Did you wear yourself out enough to give us some ‘old man’ 7 irons? :ROFLMAO:

Okay that’s 10 shots each. Club numbers look good. Obviously don’t get to see the actual ball flights, but there was some definite separation for me on spin on same strikes and shots. And the decision for which one suits me is a pretty predictable no brainer. I could spin the X up to 56-800, and just couldn’t get there with the S. And the same story on the low end.
The feel is really nice on both at this speed. S is definitely the noticeably softer feeling again and I’m really curious to see how ProV1 and Chrome Tour people like it. There’s real potential there.
I’m more of a V1x type. Always need the extra height and spin. I really like the X here. In general and for me.

And both balls still look ridiculously good.

Looks good. Yeah this is a no brainer here X is much better suited for you. In my 5k ish 7i numbers I got today with V1x it seems as if MPx would be the logical choice for me as well.
I can’t understate how much I love the feedback that they held up through mat testing tonight. If you have it in you rip a couple 10 K full wedges for me.

The similarities in the partial wedges really surprised me. It’s not just on the launch monitor but on the course too. It’s a fun ball to drive low into the green. Both the S and the X did really good for me on course in the 50-100 yard partial wedge range. Performance off an iron with a similar 9 o’clock swing was also very good and consistent through the set.

NO. They’re still in amazing shape. You’d think I’ve hit 2 balls with each. It’s such a different experience to the last ones I’m struggle to comprehend it.

Trying to get you a few of those 110 SS drives you were asking for, but trying to hold that and launch it closer to what you do I’m pulling my hands and living on the high toe. It’s basically this on repeat regardless of which ball.

I appreciate you going as far as replicating my miss as well. ?
Tried to compensate and smacked one right out of the heel. With the X. So based on that strike, and shape, and spin, let’s just go with high driver spin probably isn’t a concern for me with either one and everyone should try that for themselves.
Edit:
View attachment 9320829
Yeah that’s the high toe with the S. I’m not your guy for comparing driver spin. Things tighten up at that end for me.
Still notice the difference in feel. S feels like you mashed it. Really satisfying. X is more my cuppa.
Being Mr One Generation Behind, I bought a dozen Mizuno RB 566s just to see how they play against the Srixon SFs. Got’em for $5 a sleeve. Bit more than the SFs but still good. I will encourage all players to buy and play the new balls, as I will likely find a number of almost new balls in my yard soon.

I did just hit a few with my own iron and the X to see how that would go. Alignment was a little off after setting everything up for irons again, but I’m more than happy with those 5. I have my stuff set up to give me a little more launch right now and I’ll take that spin at 116′ peak average. This ball is right at the top of the list.

Final condition of today’s test balls. I’d take a picture of every side but it’s boring. They look just as good all over.
Great stuff @OldandStiff – I appreciate the data!
I’m still a little meh on the script and the bird being on the ball. Looks busy.
But I can quickly get over it if feel and performance are there for me. Durability looks good. Alignment line is good for me.
I’m excited.
