The Nike Lunar Control has a waterproof, leather upper that is reinforced by an additional waterproof surface treatment. Wearing the Lunars
THP got an early look at the shoe and we have been wearing them for a couple of months now. Testing them both on the course and the range and the verdict is in. They are an incredible golf shoe, full of technology and support, that leave you with no foot fatigue or comfort issues at all during the course of long days on your feet. Upon opening the box and getting an in hand look at the design, I was pretty sold on the idea of the color options and style matching that could be done, however as style is very important to this reviewer, I will always choose function over fashion when it pertains to golf shoes. That brings us to the best news out of this shoe trial, you do not have to choose fashion or function because with the Lunar Control golf shoes from Nike Golf, you get both in one package.
Slipping on the shoe at arrival, you do not get that hard feel or “I need to break these in feel”, you get soft and supple and a shoe that feels more like a slipper than something with cleats on the bottom. From the first time I wore these to the range, I immediately got a sense of comfort you do not see from many golf shoes. The Lunarlon cushioning provides a stable platform for golf, yet at the same time offering a soft feel that holds your foot in place unlike many shoes we have encountered before. I am not sure that I have ever encountered a golf shoe that features this much stability while at the same time offering this much comfort all in one nice looking package for my feet.
Once testing was completed, the Lunar Control golf shoes went on the shelf with the rest of my golf gear ready to be plucked from their perch for the next round. What I found was that I was actually picking my golf apparel before each round to coincide with the colors in the shoe so that I could wear these over every other pair that I have in the “rotation”. Nike’s newest creation in the world of footwear for golfers makes you do the one thing you always wanted to do with your golf shoes….Forget you are wearing them.
Overall
When it comes to golf shoes, there are four main points of interest that I look at during each and every review. Looks, Comfort, Stability, Durability and Price. While looks and style are completely subjective, personally I find the new Nike shoe to be striking and very versatile for golfers in terms of wardrobe. If comfort is king, all hail King Swoosh. The Lunar Control golf shoe is one of the most comfortable I have ever put on my feet for a round of golf and the best part is, they run true to size for online ordering. When checking stability we tend to look at a lot of different factors including both grip on the ground and the side stability as you “roll” through your swing. Each time we tested these traits, we were more impressed than the last time. Durability pertains to the features such as water resistance, how the shoe holds up over multiple rounds, etc and these handle all of that without a hitch. Finally the price. While it is not the cheapest shoe on the market, it is hardly a shoe that is extremely high priced and when we first put these on, we expected them to be a $199 or higher golf shoe that might keep some golfers away. When I found out the cost was about $149 in stores, I was thrilled and grinning from ear to ear. So much so that I might be ordering each of the other colors so that I can wear them more often. My feet will thank me later of course.
