Zero torque putters are no longer a fringe category, but there are still barriers preventing many golfers from fully embracing them. Some players struggle with the setup changes. Others never become comfortable with center-shafted designs. Then there’s the visual side of it all. Many zero torque putters simply look unconventional.
Odyssey has spent the last year systematically addressing those concerns through the S2S Tri-Hot lineup.
The original S2S Tri-Hot line pushed the category forward by moving the center of gravity closer to the face, reducing the excessive shaft lean that made many zero torque putters feel awkward at address. Then came the S2S Tri-Hot SB models, which introduced a single bend, heel-oriented setup that looked more traditional while still maintaining the core benefits of zero torque performance.
Now Odyssey is taking another step with the introduction of the new S2S Tri-Hot Black putters.
A More Conventional Look
The S2S Tri-Hot technology remains largely unchanged, but the aesthetics shift considerably.
Where the original S2S Tri-Hot line brought back Odyssey’s traditional red and black color palette along with Versa-inspired alignment elements, the new Black models take a much cleaner and more understated approach.
The darker finish gives the lineup a more premium appearance overall while also toning down some of the aggressive visuals that came with the original release. For golfers who appreciated the performance of the S2S platform but wanted something less busy, this lineup feels like a perfect compromise.
That is especially important in the zero torque category, where visual comfort still plays a major role in consumer adoption.
The Technology Foundation Remains
Underneath the black finish sits the same advanced multi-material construction that defined the original S2S Tri-Hot series.
Odyssey continues using a combination of aluminum, steel and substantial tungsten weighting to push more than 80% of the head’s mass under the topline and closer to the face. That forward CG placement is what allows Odyssey to reduce shaft lean and create a more intuitive setup position compared to many competing zero torque designs.
The company’s Ai-Dual insert also returns. The insert combines a softer outer urethane layer with a firmer inner core designed to stabilize ball speed across the face while also improving forward roll characteristics. Odyssey pairs that insert with its aggressive FRD groove pattern, which uses a 19-degree slope to help produce more consistent forward roll regardless of strike location.
The combination has already proven itself within the original S2S Tri-Hot lineup, particularly among golfers looking for softer feel without sacrificing speed consistency.
SB Models
While the black finish will naturally draw most of the initial attention, the SB configurations may still be the most underrated part of the lineup.
The S2S Tri-Hot SB models solved one of the biggest hurdles in zero torque adoption by shifting the shaft toward the heel using a single bend design. The result is a putter that maintains the “face wants to stay square” behavior of zero torque while presenting a much more traditional look at address.
That change also opened up cleaner alignment possibilities. Traditional center-shafted zero torque putters often interrupt topline alignment or create unusual visual perspectives behind the ball. By moving to the SB design, Odyssey created cleaner sightlines and a more familiar setup that many golfers immediately feel more comfortable using.
The black finish only enhances that effect. The darker overall appearance places less emphasis on the construction itself and allows the shapes and alignment features to stand out more naturally.
Tour-Inspired Refinements
Odyssey also continues to refine the components throughout the lineup. The Black SL 120 shaft remains heavier and stiffer than the original SL 90 design and was developed directly through Tour feedback. The additional weight helps create a more stable overall feel during the stroke while the black PVD finish visually blends into the putter more cleanly at address.
The Pistol Plus grip also returns with its midsized shape and more defined edges designed to improve awareness of face orientation throughout the stroke.

Our Take
The most interesting aspect of the S2S Tri-Hot Black lineup is how clearly Odyssey understands the remaining resistance points within the zero torque category.
First, the company addressed setup and shaft lean concerns with forward CG positioning. Then it tackled center-shaft hesitation through the SB designs. Now it is refining the visual appearance itself.
The black finish may not change the underlying performance characteristics, but it does make the lineup look more conventional and likely more approachable for a wider range of golfers. In a category where confidence and visual comfort matter enormously, that shouldn’t be overlooked.
