Zero torque putters are no longer a fringe category, but there are still barriers preventing many golfers from fully embracing them. Some players struggle with the setup changes. Others never become comfortable with center-shafted designs. Then there’s the visual side of it all. Many zero torque putters simply look unconventional.
Odyssey has spent the last year systematically addressing those concerns through the S2S Tri-Hot lineup.
The original S2S Tri-Hot line pushed the category forward by moving the center of gravity closer to the face, reducing the excessive shaft lean that made many zero torque putters feel awkward at address. Then came the S2S Tri-Hot SB models, which introduced a single bend, heel-oriented setup that looked more traditional while still maintaining the core benefits of zero torque performance.
Now Odyssey is taking another step with the introduction of the new S2S Tri-Hot Black putters.
A More Conventional Look
The S2S Tri-Hot technology remains largely unchanged, but the aesthetics shift considerably.
Where the original S2S Tri-Hot line brought back Odyssey’s traditional red and black color palette along with Versa-inspired alignment elements, the new Black models take a much cleaner and more understated approach.

The darker finish gives the lineup a more premium appearance overall while also toning down some of the aggressive visuals that came with the original release. For golfers who appreciated the performance of the S2S platform but wanted something less busy, this lineup feels like a perfect compromise.
That is especially important in the zero torque category, where visual comfort still plays a major role in consumer adoption.
The Technology Foundation Remains
Underneath the black finish sits the same advanced multi-material construction that defined the original S2S Tri-Hot series.
Odyssey continues using a combination of aluminum, steel and substantial tungsten weighting to push more than 80% of the head’s mass under the topline and closer to the face. That forward CG placement is what allows Odyssey to reduce shaft lean and create a more intuitive setup position compared to many competing zero torque designs.

The company’s Ai-Dual insert also returns. The insert combines a softer outer urethane layer with a firmer inner core designed to stabilize ball speed across the face while also improving forward roll characteristics. Odyssey pairs that insert with its aggressive FRD groove pattern, which uses a 19-degree slope to help produce more consistent forward roll regardless of strike location.
The combination has already proven itself within the original S2S Tri-Hot lineup, particularly among golfers looking for softer feel without sacrificing speed consistency.
SB Models
While the black finish will naturally draw most of the initial attention, the SB configurations may still be the most underrated part of the lineup.
The S2S Tri-Hot SB models solved one of the biggest hurdles in zero torque adoption by shifting the shaft toward the heel using a single bend design. The result is a putter that maintains the “face wants to stay square” behavior of zero torque while presenting a much more traditional look at address.

That change also opened up cleaner alignment possibilities. Traditional center-shafted zero torque putters often interrupt topline alignment or create unusual visual perspectives behind the ball. By moving to the SB design, Odyssey created cleaner sightlines and a more familiar setup that many golfers immediately feel more comfortable using.
The black finish only enhances that effect. The darker overall appearance places less emphasis on the construction itself and allows the shapes and alignment features to stand out more naturally.
Tour-Inspired Refinements
Odyssey also continues to refine the components throughout the lineup. The Black SL 120 shaft remains heavier and stiffer than the original SL 90 design and was developed directly through Tour feedback. The additional weight helps create a more stable overall feel during the stroke while the black PVD finish visually blends into the putter more cleanly at address.

The Pistol Plus grip also returns with its midsized shape and more defined edges designed to improve awareness of face orientation throughout the stroke.
Available models include:
- S2S #7
- S2S Jailbird
- S2S SB Rossie
- S2S SB #7
- S2S SB Jailbird
- S2S SB #7 Cruiser
Our Take
The most interesting aspect of the S2S Tri-Hot Black lineup is how clearly Odyssey understands the remaining resistance points within the zero torque category.
First, the company addressed setup and shaft lean concerns with forward CG positioning. Then it tackled center-shaft hesitation through the SB designs. Now it is refining the visual appearance itself.
The black finish may not change the underlying performance characteristics, but it does make the lineup look more conventional and likely more approachable for a wider range of golfers. In a category where confidence and visual comfort matter enormously, that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Pricing and Availability
The Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot Black putters will be available beginning June 12 with retail pricing set at $599.99.

Oh I really like the look of the Jailbird here. Way less distracted by the black finish compared to the red/black.
Edit: Highly disappointing these only being offered in 34 and 35 inches.
I love the black finish. The S2S isn’t for me, but looks a lot better in the SB configuration.
Oh man… those blacked out JB’s 👀
Really sharp. Props to Odyssey for the options.
Yeah, this is a great move. I have never been a fan of the white/black or red/black look.
I’m kinda torn. I actually think the Versa finish is quite useful, but they look amazing like this. Will say red/black isn’t my favorite.
They look good, but man, we’re up to $600 putters now. Good for Callaway that they can position themselves in the premium/borderline boutique range, I guess, but they’re pricing me out of the brand pretty quickly.
Hooooooooo boy, that black lefty Jailbird is 🔥🔥🔥
Also @Muchmore no piping on the blacked out JB headcover!
However, still love the red/black combo of my S2S #7
This is a great move, as I am in the camp that red is a horrible color for a putter (sorry Xander). And the first, and biggest reason I never considered one of these models.
These will get a look from me in the future. Pricing is still a large barrier here, to be honest.
That Jailbird SB – 🤌
The Rossie looks sick! The others I may prefer in the red 😅

I just don’t like black putters, but yeah still better than the strong contrasting colors they started with.
I see what you did with the photos there @Hawk well done and great article
Very nice, the lefty black jailbird SB looks great
Love this (everything but the price!). I like how clean the alignment is and how sleek they look. Ultimately it is how the perform. Very curious about the Rossie. I always struggled to hit that straight both starting on line and keeping it on line. I think the toe hang and neck didn’t work for my fairly straight stroke. Curious to see how this performs. Ultimately while looks and feel matter to me I can force myself to mentally get by it if it works (my half ball really grew on me for example and I have a little improvement over my old putter)
Man they were smart to launch red first and then this murdered out version! I don’t hate the red at all but seeing the 2 side by side no way do I ever choose red over the black!
Hope they release the standard versions in black as well!
These look slick!!!

I’m right there with you!!
The black Seven SB might be the only ZT putter so far I would be willing to look down at and maybe use.
These look really good and I am glad they give this options. However I am all in on the red and black look
Those are really nice looking.
These look so good but that price is a tough pill to swallow
Just hard to justify 6 bills for an Odyssey…..
Oh these are very nice looking, just enough contrast to help but not be distracting.

What does it being an Odyssey have to do with wether or not its worth 6 bills?
I love love love the red but these look really good.
Options are good and I prefer the red and black.
I think they would look better with a blacked out face.
@Hawk are these your photos? I let out an "oh, f**k you" when I saw them which I mean as incredible praise.

I just don’t see an Odyssey being worth it. Mind game I suppose, but at that price, I’d be looking elsewhere. Plus, their magnetic head covers always sucked! That’s my Hot Take!

Best insert putters in the game. Most used putters on Tour by a large margin. Tons of high tech materials and design in the S2S Tri-Hot line. Plus unlike a lot of zero torque options, these will actually get the ball all the way to the hole.

I definitely see your post as valid, especially after gandering at your Sig. I’m one that could care less what’s the most used on Tour. If the ball is not getting to the hole, I’m in the camp it’s the Indian. My LAB does a fine job getting the ball to the hole,as does my ole trust center shaft Hogan.
✌️

Can’t quite tell if that’s sincere based on the eye roll. I only brought up the bit about Tour because most of the use on Tour is by non-staffers. Meaning guys not getting played to play it. If the best in the world trust it, not sure why many amateurs see it as inferior for some reason.
Are my eyes deceiving me? I’m seeing blue (& black) with this view…

BUT WHAT COLOR IS THE DRESS?

Exactly what I was thinking!!! :ROFLMAO:
(its white / gold btw)
I liked the red, and also like the black. I’ve always been a center shaft fan, but have not been able to roll these yet. One day..
I think the alignment lines would look great as a gloss black against the flatter finish on the body.
Still some great looking offerings though.

That’s just a difference in material I believe. It doesn’t look blue on my monitor.

Yea I figured that – just had to do a double take.
These look great. I prefer this to the red. Will definitely be keeping an eye out for CPO for down the road as I see this being my next potential putter.

Totally sincere on my part! The eye roll was only towards “folks playing equipment based off what Tour players are using, which is senseless to me. Tour equipment is usually one off that you can’t walk in and buy off a rack. Lot of normal folks don’t understand that part. Truly see a lot of Odyssey on Tour yes, even on the LPGA. At the moment, I just don’t see it at the price point. But then again, equipment overall is outrageous these days.
All good on my end. Sorry if it came across the wrong way! I do like a couple of them models, but my current putter is working. It’s been in the bag almost going on 16 months now.
Very much like the black over the original red
I like the red/black original look, but these look really great too. Good idea to get people turned off by the red to take another look.
Honestly if I could custom order length I’d already have one ordered.
These. Are. Fantastic.
