Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show. Hosted by Dan Edwards each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today Dan welcomes Founder of Club Champion and Dean of Fitting, Nick Sherburne to the show for an episode of Ask the Fitter.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Nick joins the show to answer reader/listener questions with Ask the Fitter and they run the gamut of everything you would want to know. This show has a lot going on and it is an episode you will not want to miss as Nick goes Off Course.

Episode 78 is here and Dan and Nick discuss the following topics.
Your Questions Answered
Weight, Flex and More
Steel vs Graphite
And so much more
You can listen to the show right here, Apple Podcasts or of anywhere you do your listening and downloading from. In. Thanks Dan!
@Canadan wouldn’t it be Dan and Nick not Dan and dax?
I’ll be listening this weekend, I have a booked day but I can’t wait.
This is cool. I can listen and post at the same time? Cool.

Typo that was corrected and obviously not part of the show for those listening.
What day is it?! Can’t wait to listen!

Had to double check I didn’t sleep through Thursday.
Get your fix early this week, boys!!!

I did the same :ROFLMAO: I didn’t set an alarm this morning trying to recover from the weekend and man that drop had my heart skip a beat!
Can’t wait to fire this one up.
Good listen – interested in the products/materials coming out next year. Sounds like next year’s products might generate a little discussion on the forum.
Edited: Nevermind, it was my device.
Great work Dan. Nick likes to talk. Love how passionate they are about fitting.
Heck yeah nothing better than kicking the weekend off early!!! I should have downloaded this before I took off. OL wait I still have time.
YASSSSS! Early Off Course! Let’s goooo!
Did I sleep through Thursday? :ROFLMAO: Totally off my game this week haha. Tuning in now
I am only about 15 min in on the drive to work. So far this is great!! I love the say it like it is unapologetically method from Nick. “We are trying to sell you something, BUT!! we want you 1. to be happy and 2. it to help your game”..

It was such a transparent and real line and I appreciated that so much.
Nick’s comment about we use Trackman, we think its the best…I could go on a 3 hour conversation as to why…I doubt it would ever happen but I’d LOVE that to be an episode as to the best of my knowledge Foresight is a better product especially indoors and CC is exclusively indoors.

Lets be real, should we be surprised when we walk into a place like that when the fitters/reps try and get us to buy products that we already want?? lol
Agree so much on the shaft flexes and about the future of graphite shafts.
I am listening still at work haha.. AUTOFLEX LOL!!!!

Man, I thought the same thing! I was super excited it was Friday! Then I was disappointed that it was only Thursday. Then I was excited again because we can listen to this lol

Yeah, I don’t have a great enough knowledge on the variables in play, other than to say that I have pretty limited faith on Trackman based on my experiences with it, and the italicized numbers on the regular that I get on it (which i Believe are calculations).

I think their guarantee of playability sort of forces their hand on providing the best possible result. It is a lot more work for fitters to put something in something the fitter wants, and not the thing that the player wants (and hits better).
Ugh.. Graphite iron shafts… I need to just do it..

Neither do I obviously, It just caught my attention because he seemed so confident about it and 3 hours is a long time to discuss
Hehe, Dan said ‘buttload’
Nick is very skilled at explaining what their goals and methods are. I’m not sure I follow the logic behind it all but he does a great job presenting it and seems to really believe in it.
Also, I’m now all in on light iron shafts now, but will keep a roll of lead tape on my person at all times. ?

I do think it’s really interesting how dynamic swing weighting can be. People get SO lost on “heavy feels heavy” and “light feels light” when it’s only SOME of the equation.

Agreed. And then furthermore, as Jason pointed out in a previous Off Course, how they do so statically rather dealing with the individual shaft and where the balance point is.

The lack of correlation between static swing weight vs swing speed was kinda mind bending.
I want to know how many THPers have given graphite a chance in fittings? I know I will be in my next one.
The comments about counterbalanced shafts just blew my mind. They have become so popular as of late.
Gave me a heart attack. I thought it was Friday for. Second. I was so confused.

Frick. Now I want to go back to graphite.

It does work for many otherwise they wouldn’t keep making them….at least thats what I tell myself. Swing weight is an odd thing. One time I got fitted for a driver swing weight of E1 😳 :ROFLMAO:

I understand the principle of swing weight, but I still do not completely understand its impact.. It feels like voodoo to me.. haha. One of my fav clubs I have ever played was a cobra king utility. It was super light in swing weight but I hit it so well. I also know that one of the best ball strikers of all time Sergio, played super heavy static weight clubs. but super light swing weight.

To me it’s all about each individual and how they swing the club. Too heavy or too light throws everything off timing, tempo, etc. That being said I think our bodies can adjust over time so I’m not a big believer in it as of right now and clearly I’m no expert. However I do think it should be consistent throughout a set.

I wonder if there is a tech studio bit that could be done. Take a club, fairly normal swing weight, then start adding swing weight to the club and see what happens. It is always going to be player dependent but would be fun.

More speed would happen. Mass does that. With that said, other variables are at play. If you wanted to do it, the better scenario visually would be to keep adding mass to the butt end of the club, rather than head.

If it works it works.. The tensei orange is another one that saw huge early adoption. I think it fell into the category I call “launch monitor darling”. Puts up really good numbers on a launch monitor. But in real life it gets kinda unplayable so most moved away from it fairly quickly.

Just that it was grabbed as part of a bigger tinker before the MC. Cobra is staying put, but I want to try CB again.
Great episode this morning. When I saw it was regarding fittings I just had to listen today instead of my usual Friday time-kill at work. Listening made me realize what I thought was an iron fitting wasn’t really a proper fitting at all. I’m happy with my irons but I’m really wondering if the KBS Tour 90s are the right shaft for me or just the best of the very limited options that I hit.
I know I need to find out if the driver shaft I’m using is appropriate since I just bought the driver off some dude on facebook.
Fun listen! Lots of stuff that I wouldn’t have thought about. Such as you hear all the time that people go to fittings just to find out what works and then buy on their own. Doesn’t seem to work that well based on the conversation that was had.
Also I don’t know how everyone isn’t in graphite irons shafts already :ROFLMAO:
Can’t wait to listen!!!
