Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show and this is episode 207. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today, Chris Voshall from Mizuno Golf joins the show again to cover a myriad of topics including the benefits of moving to a new product and diving into the CORTECH CHAMBER technology in drivers.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and Chris dive into many topics including Mizuno flexing with finish abilities. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as Chris Voshall goes Off Course.

Episode 207 is here and Dan and Vosh discuss the following topics.
The Benefits of Moving to New Products
Getting Stuck with Favorite Clubs
CORTECH CHAMBER
Fitting the 24 and JPX Series
Making Drivers for Every Swing
And so much more
You can listen to the show right here, Apple Podcasts or anywhere you do your listening and downloading from. Search for the Hackers Paradise and make sure to subscribe so you never miss an episode. Still blocked that way. No worries I will watch it when I get home. Thank you for the link though.
Enjoyed the listen. More talk on drivers vs all irons was a plus. Get him talking wedges more next time if you can!

I never even considered how much a company looks at the different traffic movements on their websites. Loved how much they care about getting people into the fitting carts.

And just offering access to detailed information and comparisons on their website. Vosh talking about a Mizuno guy being a certain type of player. I’d argue that type includes ones armed with more information than most when they get to that cart.
It’s odd that it doesn’t show up for you, or maybe it’s blocked because of work or something, but on my phone even, it shows right up.

Listening now and hearing a lot of emphasis on getting people to a fit cart/session. Something I definitely need to do regardless of mfg I end up with.
Super good listen. Vosh is great as always.
I ended up at a fitting cart with an optimizer. Kinda eye opening at how “wrong” I have been after testing what it suggested.
Another great episode. I always think of Mizuno for irons, but have never once hit one of their woods or hybrids. I know they’re trying to change that image. Cool to hear Vosh explain everything about them.
Loved the discussion as a whole, especially at the end when all of the wood options on the market were discussed.
Every time I hear Vosh talk about Chromoly, it makes me want to go hit their irons.
Awesome show- like and share on YouTube people.

It’s very good! Aside from all the cool equipment discussion (the fairways got my interest) Vosh really drove home the point of, get fitted, get fitted, get fitted…
I absolutely love listening to Vosh talk about gear and fitting. He makes a lot of sense and it’s awesome to hear Mizuno is getting more market share.
I’m gonna be really disappointed in the marketing team and the company of Mizuno all together if there isn’t a “9 to 5” Dolly Parton reference somewhere coming.

Absolutely. It just shows I didn’t watch a YouTube podcast without learning something. Knowledge is king!
Very cool episode and Vosh is another guy that is super fun to listen to. Loved hearing about how his bag has evolved and the discussion about what is your 18 degree Club and why at the end.
Listened on my bike ride tonight, it was a great show. The teaser at the end about what’s coming soon definitely caught my attention, wondering what they’re going to bring to the market.

Dreaming every day about that!
@Canadan any talk about mini/micro tacos?
Oh! I totally dug Vosh’s Save Goat Hill Park tee shirt too. Looked it up on Google maps and it’s in Oceanside CA.
We’re heading to Coronado for a week at the end of June so I may try to sneak up there and play a round and get a shirt.
Loved everything Vosh had to say! Can’t wait to meet him in person at the VC in September.
Enjoyed the show as always. Love the dedication and commitment Mizuno has put into their metalwoods. It’s cool hearing the tech story and thinking about how each company has their own way of doing things, but all seem to be making such good products right now.
I look back fondly at my 221/223 combo set. Great looking and feeling irons.
As to the question that was posed: I have a UW in the 19* spot. It’s as good from the tee as the turf. It’s super versatile and I can hit it more consistently than a fairway and has the edge over a utility in that I can hit it high and soft. It’s probably the hardest spot to fill in the bag because the club needs to do multiple things.
I could have listened to these two go on for another hour of three. Thanks for the great show!

Well I have a 19* and 20.5*. So there. The 20.5 is a 4i.

Versatility in that spot is key. For me I don’t know which player is showing up. So a tweener FW/HYD or GI 4i player.
Finally finished this one up. Great episode. Very curious to see whats coming from Mizuno in the future based on this conversation.

Probably an old shirt. It was ‘saved’ a few years back. You should play it though. It’s a great little course and a cool spot.

Right? I mean they discounted 2 wood lines of clubs that were less than a year old, one less than 6 months, the ST-MAX Line.

You’re right! I got to reading a little about it a few nights ago and it looks like the public was able to save the park back in 2014. So, that shirt is probably a little older than that. Cool shirt though.
Depending on the Mrs, I may still try to get up there while we’re there. We’ll be staying on our boat at Fiddlers Cove and I am planning to sneak in at least one day of golf at the Sea N Air course at North Island for my B-Day. Other than that we’ll just be relaxing, reading, and hitting a lot of happy hours in Coronado.
One of the things I thought was very cool and never really noticed was Vosh mentioning the subtle design things on the crown of the driver and the placement.
watched this episode earlier this week and really enjoyed it! well done @Canadan and Vosh!!

I like Mizuno and have in my current bag a set of JPX 923 Tour irons as well as the ST-Z 220 model driver and current ST-G 3-wood. Fairly often I see Mizuno irons within other players bags but I don’t recall ever seeing another player I’ve been paired with having any Mizuno metal wood clubs. My guess is that the reason Mizuno metal woods get discounted is because sales are lackluster which means both Mizuno and its retail distributors must discount the price to sell thru the inventory. I consider this a shame because Mizuno absolutely does produce metal woods and hybrid clubs that are as good or better as any leading brand name.

They’ve definitely had a bigger market share with this line of woods than they’ve had before. And like Vosh said, this is another step towards the goal they are working towards. Definitely a brand that should be tested by everyone, they make a hell of a product all the way around. Not just irons!
