Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show and this is episode 311. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday we give you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today, John Freeman from Mizuno joins the show to discuss learning from one of the best and tour feedback for the Signature Series.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and John dive into many topics including John’s college golf and entry into Mizuno R&D and where the S-4 fits into the iron lineup. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as John Freeman from Mizuno goes Off Course.

Episode 311 is here and Dan and John Freeman discuss the following topics and a whole lot more.
John’s college golf and entry into Mizuno R&D
Learning from one of the best and early work
Generating critical tour feedback for the Signature series
Where the S-4 fits into the lineup, and Tour reactions
John’s top iron from the bunch, and what’s in the bag right now
And so much more

Really excited to dive into this one – Mizuno has def jumped a tier or two in the last couple years with the Pro S and JPX lines. Great stuff @Canadan !
Great show with JF.
He is a fun guy to play with and a rock solid golfer.
I’m looking forward to listening to this one today.
Heck yeah! Going to fire this one up after work.
The magician behind Contour Ellipse face!? That thing is maybe the most efficient face design ever.
lol – irons took over the topic quickly. How could they not? Really great conversation here Dan!
I’m into this now. The guy behind the Contour Ellipse face concept.
This should be a great one.
Combo?? Wait till the S2’s come out and I am going to quambo all four sets. 😂
Peak internet golfer!!
Also on the topic of s2.
If they could do a thicker soled. Quad cut chunky MB with some slightly stronger lofts. 👌👌

Was “Quambo” intentional?
Because that is a weirdly hilarious word to describe a four set combo hahaha

Yeah, John sold me pretty dang hard on the M series while celebrating what makes the S series great.
Really looking forward to this one. I am really thinking of jumping into the MB range and curious what is said about the lineup from top to bottom

Yes. I made it up. “Quad combo”
Enjoyed this off course and appreciated the iron discussion.
Thanks for keeping this one at the top today, boys. Front page is a bit wild right now hahaha
And thanks for taking the time to listen. If you’re like me, hearing what Mizuno is up to in the iron front is about as necessary as it gets.
I look forward to firing this up later this evening. Those S4 are really intriguing me.

You get me.
so what? Genuine question. Are you looking for a muscle back to say It’s a muscle back or are you looking for something? That’s the shape that you like with the specs you like?
You asked for slightly larger, stronger lofts here it is
The conversation about M-13 already being a “combo set” was great. I could almost hear @Canadan do this gif internally

progressive sets FTW!!
Fantastic episode. Hearing John talk rather humbly about the amazing things he’s designed was really cool.
Another great episode with all sorts of great insight! It’s fun to hear a great player who is also an engineer talk about products he helps create.
This was a great conversation @Candan. I really enjoyed hearing John and I am going to put the Mizunos on the short list of irons to try next year.
I enjoyed this one and learning about John’s journey. Crazy how his introduction to product design was the contour ellipse design that is on the current JPX lines.
