Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show and this is episode 212. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today, Josh Babbitt from THP joins the show to discuss if it is possible to sell a shaft based on performance.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and Josh dive into many topics including testing a prototype shaft that is unlike anything else on the market. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as Josh Babbitt goes Off Course.

Episode 212 is here and Dan and Josh discuss the following topics.
UST Mamiya Prototype Shafts
Favorite Golf Holes of 2024
Bad Swing Advice
And so much more

As someone who is mid shaft war with 8 or 9 shafts I desperately wanna try one of these after reading through the forum and listening to this

But it’s not an Auto Flex. In fact in many ways the opposite. That company spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in marketing on a single product to stand out at a cost that is hysterical.
A mainstream company can’t do that. they have a myriad of products. Changing course completely for a single product that is opposite of everything else could be a death blow.
that is where to me, they are stuck in a weird way

I didn’t think about it quite like that. Would it not be worth making a run of shafts for specialty fitters like Club Champion. If I am going in to be fitted, I am going to be open minded enough to try whatever is handed to me. Then, if it works…
Just finished listening to this one and it was a great episode.
On the Proto shafts I don’t think this one is for me based on me being a slower swing speed guy but would love to swing it a few times to see. I do think more education on what sections being stiffer or more flexible does for the shaft performance and some kind of code based on that could be interesting for golfers and lead to sales better than just basic flex and if it’s launch/spin window.
I’d also love to see @Canadan use the Shotscope system for a few months and see if what he thinks of his game in terms of strengths and weaknesses end up matching what the data says. I think that would be an interesting thread to follow.

maybe?
It’s not a crazy inexpensive shaft to make, so I imagine they’re gonna want some thing to come out of it, but it’s such a fun process being involved from beginning to end.
because it really is a unique product
Listened to this on the way back from the beach Saturday. It was a good listen.
Kicking myself for not asking to hit JB’s driver at the MC.
@Canadan you need to jump into the ShotScope ecosystem for a few months. You’ll be surprised of the things you find.
I want to hit JB’s driver in September for sure, even if I might not have the speed for it.
I actually spent quite a bit of time this weekend thinking about the impact of each shot on the tracking software.
I’m starting to come around.
I think I can do this.

Loved the data tracking discussion in the pod. What I thought about my performance in certain areas of the game and what the data said about those were sometimes contradictory. A very eye-opening experience.

I can’t help but think you would, at a minimum, enjoy it.
