@templeton80 You would enjoy this one.
I am having a conversation with one of the foremost shaft experts of the last 20 years (he is not in golf anymore). And he said to me they did a test with tour players involving shaft and head. What they determined was not what was expected and virtually 100% across the board the same for amateurs.
If they gave them a shaft that was too flexible they said the shaft didnt work.
If they gave them a shaft that was too stiff they said the head felt terrible.
What they learned was that the feel aspect of it, made up as much or more than the EI curve for their designs.

I totally buy that.. I have learned over my years that it is best to error on the side of stiffer. That too soft almost works for no one. We have to be careful with absolutes but as far as performance goes error on the side of stiffer. I think I remember you saying that Bryson didnt care about feel and only focused on the performance when he was switching to the rebar shafts in his irons. Just an interesting thought.

I think it depends on the golfer and their tendencies more than anything as we have seen some whacky fits over the years at experiences, but at the end of the day, airing that way due to the persons psychy is fair too haha
Five-hour drive today to Tennessee, so I’ve listened to this twice now. I would pay good money for a full bag shaft-fitting session with Jason.
He blows my mind and speaks to my golf soul. Impressive guy.
Haven’t had a chance yet to listen but will this afternoon or evening.
When there’s Off Course, there’s the weekend.
Listened to the first 15 minutes on the drive to work this morning. Brain hurt a little before I even got to work but that was fun! Excited to dive in more in a couple hours for lunch!
Great listen again for a Friday but I might need another run-through for that one as I felt like I was just nodding politely and swirling ice cubes around in my glass the whole time. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I’m educated enough to make decisions like shaft selection, which is why I believe more and more in the fitting process.
This one did a lot to remind me of just how fantastic the Velocity was for me last year. I should run it back.
Seemed like I was just getting into it and it was over. We need more ?
I was wanting to know what is the lightest Driver Shaft in the Kinetixx stable ?
That was absolutely fantastic. I know I for sure missed a bunch of info and will probably have to listen again but I’m not a fan of how you said you’ll have Jason back in a “couple months” has to be sooner lol I could tell you had a lot more to ask!

Haha yeah, there’s lots to ask.
Maybe one of these weeks I really will double down and add an extra show. You’ll have to be on your best behavior though.
I know very little about shafts but always learn a little more when you talk with Jason.
Finally getting around to listening to this. Shaft technology is so arcane to me, it’s great to have somebody as knowledgeable as Jason breaking it down and making it more understandable.
Want to nudge this because 1) New Week and 2) Every time Jason is on it costs me a fortune, like this one did

Yup!
I listened to this on the way to my son’s winter baseball practice. Wow. I was not expecting to have to think that hard that early in the morning. I’ll have to listen a few more times when I can give 100% focus. I’m blaming it on driving even though I know I’d still have to go back more than a few times.
After putting a spare shaft into a new club seeking something this is a topic I’m getting into again.
Finally got a chance to listen to this one. I’m really intrigued even more by these shafts after listening to Jason.

I’m pretty excited to continue the conversation with Jason again soon. I’ve got SO many questions I’d love to learn about.

I was excited to hear they have a new website coming as well. I’d say theirs is….not my favorite

I’d like their new website to have a feature that says “Talk to me like I’m 10” so we can understand the madness hahaha

Yes! Exactly. Even though you guys kind of touched on how shafts are labeled typically and these don’t really work the same I’d really like to have some idea of what Kinetixx shaft is best for me. Ballistic maybe? :ROFLMAO:
I am very much looking forward to seeing hte new website and branding. I should be talking to Jason soon about a launch date.

The conversation possibilities are endless
I finally was able to finish listening to this today. I’ll listen to it again in full to have a better understanding of some of the things Dan and Jason discussed. Even in parts, the conversation blew my mind.
This episode was fantastic. As someone who knows little to nothing on shafts, I learned a lot. And man I feel a little attacked. I always thought graphite shafts in irons were for older folks and man was I wrong. Great episode!

Easiest way to combat that thinking is the strongest and fastest swinging player on the PGA Tour uses graphite iron shafts. 🙂
I particularly liked the discussion on rolling the ball back. How the ball is relatively constant, but there are so many more abilities to engineer club and shaft dynamics. That’s a really important discussion.

I’ve listened to one section of the pod a couple of times trying to understand what Jason means when he says a shaft is or is not disruptive. He also referred to a shaft as “noble.” This begins 35 minutes in. Perhaps someone knows what he means and can shed some light on it for me. Or maybe these could be questions for Jason when you have him on again.
I had been meaning to get to this thread and it slipped my mind. This podcast may well have been my favorite of all of them done by Mr. @Canadan. I sure wish it were easier to get access to these shafts. Anyway, I highly recommend it to any who has not yet given it a listen.

Thanks my friend!! I’ve been really enjoying my guests lately! Jason is a legend.

Let me dig into the one shortly. I don’t want to say the wrong thing to add to the confusion haha

Not specific to this thread but I am posting it here because I love the Velocity shaft and searched around today:
I wish it were easier to try shafts and buy them. If there were a place I could go put that velocity shaft on my driver and hit a few, I would probably own one already. But the closest I got today was finding a shaft retrofit for $125 at a place listed as a Paderson dealer. I didn’t book it and will probably buy a new driver eventually. If I knew my driver worked like I want with this shaft, I might not need a new driver. Problem is I can take my driver and demo it against another driver for free.
This was a really interesting episode. It‘s got me thinking about a possible upgrade to graphite iron shafts this year. I just have no idea where to start. lol
This was a great listen. Very interesting to hear how much testing Kinetixx puts into shafts and how deeply they view the influence of the shaft on the whole club. I love that they put so much $$$ into R & D, manufacturing via filament winding. Shaft passion on full display.
I know I’m late, but this was wonderfully insightful, particularly the bit about flexing up or down. Great listen.
