Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show and this is episode 229. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today, Don Brown, from True Temper/Project X joins the show to discuss the storied success of HZRDUS.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and Don dive into many topics including the incredible success of HZRDUS and challenging some of the myths in the world of golf shafts. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as Don Brown goes Off Course.
Episode 229 is here and Dan and Don discuss the following topics.
The Storied Success of HZRDUS
Material Change and Benefits to Golfers
Challenging Misnomers on Strength and Stiffness
Can the Shaft Industry Have Real Benchmarks
Denali vs HZRDUS
The Birth of the Icon Grip
And so much more

Got about halfway through this on the way to work this morning! The discussion about how HZRDUS Yellow essentially turned in to the Blue was cool. I loved that shaft while I had it. Hearing that the Red was requested by Tour is pretty freaking cool too! I loved that shaft even more than the Blue while I used it as well. Only really had it dialed in with one driver head though which was interesting.
The final thing I got to was when you guys were talking about people liking the feeling of the shaft “loading” but not bending…I have no idea those were different things lol

We spoke for a couple minutes after wrapping up the show and I can pretty much guarantee that 2025 will have more of Don bending brains with thoughts on the pod.
It’s going to be a lot of fun.
Definitely enjoyed this one. I am hopeful to see an Icon Cord grip. Really liking the feel of the Icon and hoping to get it on a club here shortly. I will be interested to see what the bring in the future with their shaft lineup. Sounds like they have some cool stuff in the works.

This is a super interesting conversation. It also made me wonder what happened to Keenan. looks like he is not with TT/Project X anymore..

“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.”
KP has moved on to a new job opportunity, still in and around golf, just not in the equipment biz. He was great one here for 7 years and will be TT family for life.
