Original Penguin by Munsingwear has a new collection launching and it features one of the most iconic golfers of all time. The Chi Chi Rodriguez 2023 Summer Collection is here and it ties in a retro yet modern look, combined with the classic Original Penguin heritage and style.

“The Chi Chi Rodriguez collection fully incorporates what it means to be an original,” stated Oscar Feldenkreis, CEO of Perry Ellis International. “El Toreador is a true icon in the game and one of the most popular golfers of all time. This collection perfectly reflects his distinct style, from his hallmark fedora to his signature “sword dance” celebration. We are excited to bring this collection of products to market, merging Chi Chi’s original style with Penguin’s trademark performance.”
The design inspiration for the Chi Chi collection comes in part from his beloved wife’s love of Hawaii. The signature “Iwalani” floral print is created with colors and patterns representing a retro heritage style with a modern “original” twist.

“I am thrilled to once again wear the Penguin,” stated Chi Chi Rodriguez. “I started to wear Munsingwear on tour in the 1960’s and won the first five tournaments I played in with the same shirt. I loved the way the shirt felt on me and the looks were a little different, which was great because I was a little different and I wanted to stand out.”
Highlights of the Chi Chi capsule include:
- Special Penguin logo inspired by Chi Chi’s iconic fedora
- Refreshed classic Chi Chi polos including the iconic Earl, Heritage Tipped Mock, Floral and Tribal Prints, and All Over Pete
- Heritage Micro Floral Print shorts and colorful trousers
- Heritage graphic T-Shirts
- Heritage Sweater Hoodie
- Heritage Fedora

“This new collection perfectly reflects who I am as a golfer and person,” added Rodriguez. “It’s a nostalgic collection, very inspirational, and one that I am very proud of.”

I wonder if @Jman will buy these?
That’s a nice looking collection. Saw some Original Penguin stuff at an department store yesterday. Pretty nice stuff.
I’d give that Fedora a try! Collection looks very nice.
Does Chi Chi Rodriguez move the needle in 2023? The lineup looks nice. I like the t-shirts.
I like the floral prints quite a bit.
I love this idea.

Maybe? To me it is more about an iconic name attached to a small collection and at least makes it stick out.
The Chi Chi Earl polo looks fantastic. Clean for sure.
Nice shirts.

This looks really well put together! While the fedora would look silly on me, could definitely see the apparel in my closet.
Well done!
Collection looks great. Not sure I’d wear it to play golf but maybe to a summer party.
Can you wear a fedora to play golf? (Asking for a friend).
Very different from their normal stuff and I dig it.

Yup and did you know 1 of our members on here does their PR work for some of their brands with his firm? Won’t mention names but he is an awesome guy.
I like that blue floral polo a LOT.
I think they’re fun, especially the one with Chi-Chi doing all his various putter-sword poses. Their light weight polos are fantastically comfortable and cool in warm weather.
I like the t-shirts that are in the collection
I like the collection something I can definitely get behind.

I’ve reviewed a lot of the Penguin stuff here, I love some of it, some is more traditional than I care for personally. The floral polos look good here though, and I will have the T’s.

This. Their tech polo’s are fantastic.
Ohhh that blue shirt is spicy!
The epitome of cool. I know I could never in a million years pull it off, but I might buy that white polo with the piping its awesome looking.
I actually kind of dig that lineup! I think I could rock that hat too haha
Looks pretty good.
I like the look and they look like summer. A guy at our club who I play with occasionally in league worked for Chi Chi when he was younger and I have heard some stories about him, all good . Sounds like he is just a really good guy.
I think they look nice and I was always a fan of Chi Chi and his style!!
Not my style but still nice looking

Good looking stuff!
I like it. Hmmm. Might give it a go.
Do I put Chi Chi in play, for my tee time later today?

Spolier alert…. absolutely not. apex pros immediately went back in the bag.
I love this, if not only for getting Chi Chi some well-deserved recognition.
he’s just the essence of cool…oldest man on the planet who can rock a white belt!
I can’t do the fedora, but the print polos are awesome!
When I was a kid, my dad took me to a Senior Tour event. I wanted Lee Trevino’s autograph more than anything. Waited after the 18th and he walked right past me and only signed a handful. Was pretty upset and down after that.
Then we saw Chi Chi Rodriguez sitting on a golf cart signing for some adults. Everybody knew Chi Chi for his sword dance and I was a fan as well. I shyly walked over and waited quietly behind the crowd. Chi Chi saw me, moved the adults out of the way and pulled up onto the cart with him and gave me a hug. Signed my visor and spent a minute or so laughing joking with me. That guy was, and still is, cool.
love the fedora, want badly
Young Cheech was a regular in Memphis, always took care of the kids. Class act. Remember him gambling on the practice tee as to how far he could hit a driver. There were some railroad tracks on the other side of a street that he bet he could hit it past. Had to be 330. He one bounced it over them. Never once in 50 years did I reach them. The little guy could bust it.
Some good looking pieces in the collection
Dig this. some cool options in that lineup. Man I would rock that fedora.

I like this shirt. All I can ever think of when hearing Chi Chi’s name is when Les Nessman says it on WKRP. Younger people will have no idea what I am talking about, but would be worth looking up. Hilarious.
looks good, especially the solid colors
Love this! Watching Chi-Chi as a kid with my gramps is something I miss.
Chi Chi doesn’t hold back for sure.
