The PING G425 driver just hit the USGA conforming list. You will start to hear news about the product line, mostly the driver as irons won’t be on there, but it will be a full line. To start with, here is what we can say. The G425 driver is made up of three models.
MAX
LST
SFT
The major story for driver will be a re-engineered CG shifter (weight movement) and a larger difference between the three models than the G410. For irons will be HydroPearl Consistency and multimaterial badge for feel.
These products (the full line) will then officially be released in Japan the following week. Shortly thereafter the full line will be released in AUS. They will NOT be released in N. America and PING will have no mention of them on their websites or marketing until embargo late into 2020, with a release date of 2021.
Those countries will have the lines listed on their websites at launch time (for Japan, it will next week and AUS the week after that). Speaking with the company over the last month, they have no official statement on the release currently, but do understand that as items hit the international PING sites, that messaging and images will appear.
Hitting HIGH bombs!
Missed a marketing opportunity there.
The fact that PING still doesn’t use composite blows my mind.
I believe it was either you or @Big SoIL that asked about that very thing to their R&D during our THP Experience with them. The answer was that they struggled with the bonding/glue currently, correct?
I think some players (myself included) prefer the sound and weight vs composite?
The weight with composite doesn’t need to change.
Yep, that was the exact explanation. I just wasn’t sure if I should bring that flimsy explanation up ?.
I think they also mentioned they didn’t see a big enough benefit in the weight savings to justify it. That comment boggled my mind too.
I can see the sound argument being valid and I loved the sound of the G400 myself. The weight is what gets me. That weight saving from a composite crown doesn’t mean you have to get rid of the weight completely. I would just allow them to move it around the head.
I’m not sure what it is. The composite heads just feel different to me. The Mavrik is definitely the first composite head feel very comfortable with in terms of the feel, but I do like the heft of the pings.
I’m actually on your side with the weight also, I like the heavier Ping driver heads.
The numbering is part of the overall plan hatched by a secret and evil cabal, whose sole aim is to bring all golf equipment under one ruling entity. You would see it if you would really do your research like the more enlightened have done.
I tend to agree with you on both. I don’t mind somewhat of a muted sound, but I also don’t hate a louder, higher-pitched sound. And the weight is something I think is more important than I’ve realized in the past.
The weight thing is interesting to me. I grabbed the 3 heads closest to me.

I found the G400/Max to feel super light and hollow! I think it felt like a shoe box on a stick.
My friend just got a G410 and the first thing I noticed on the first tee was it sounded great. I love everything about my GBB Epic but I definitely liked the sound of his G410 a little better.
Which g410 head is that? Their own specs on their website claim the head weight of the LST is 208, the Plus is 206 and the SFT is 204. Does the hosel adapter count towards head weight numbers?
What driver/shaft did he order? I ordered a 410 last week but haven’t gotten an estimated ship date yet. I was told to expect 4 weeks right now but I’m curious.
Conforming pics are B&W
Keep in mind that all USGA Conforming pictures are done in black and white.
I would assume PING is including the adapter.
We have 3 different Plus heads and each one ranges from 198.6 to 200g
Lol, so much for a Vader driver.
I’ve enjoyed cobras. specifically i’m thinking about Callaway sometimes coming in a bit lighter, and me struggling to find the middle. could all be in my head (no pun intended)
the 400 max didn’t win many awards on feel/sound when compared to its competitors, that’s for damn sure. personally I didn’t find it to feel light at all, and I played it with a couple high 60g shafts (performed very similarly with both). but like pretty much any club I’ve ever gamed, after a bit of time spent you start to differentiate between good strikes and bad, and the sound becomes a nonissue.
Haha. It could be. I think we are seeing most come in between that 190 and 205 mark and with various weights available, people can really dial them in through fitting which is awesome. I would say Ping slides into the middle or skews slightly heavier by a gram or two.
Every company will be at composite soon. The benefits are too great in terms of flexibility and was noted at the THP Experience with PING. Seeing crowns as light as 10g now and that is a huge amount of weight from just a handful of years ago to "play with".
Seriously should have stuck with 420.
you got your wish
I like the muted sound. One of my favorite drivers ever was the Callaway FT3 which had a nice solid sound to it.
not sure how accurate this is, but I want to say I heard just they’ll have the new g series, and an upgrade to iblade. I series will stay in-line for another year.
I sure hope you are correct in regards to the iblade. Let’s see some pics of the irons now
eye 2, i3, G5/i5, G10/i10, G15/i15, G20/i20, G25/i25, G30, G/I, G400/i200/G700, G410/i210/i500/G710
I’m sure I missed something and messed something up. I just really have no idea how they choose their numbering now. They incremented by 1, then 5, then removed numbers, then went to hundreds, then added a 10 and now 15.
Yes with ping.
Perfect timing.
I don’t work for NASA ?
they can’t afford you
Maybe you should check with SpaceX.
You might as well. Trifecta !!
I don’t think it makes sense but ?????
This thing looks amazing though in that picture and as mentioned previously, these pics usually don’t have the club look nearly as good as release sooooo I’m excited for that.
So essentially an i210?
Not sure I like the going smaller trend. That’s what the i500 and i210’s lines are for.
Exactly the case for me in MA. Looks like Mizuno or Titleist this time around for me. Like the G710 but the PVD finish is a non-starter for me. Really wanted to test the ZX5 but Don’t like the idea of waiting to spring…
So, you’ve actually seen the G425 irons? Wow! Did you see what color scheme they have? Black/red like the G410?
I only got a quick view over Skype but they were definitely not as colorful as the 410’s – which I don’t mind. They have gone for a cleaner look.
