Last year at this time we brought you all of the details from PING’s latest driver lineup, the G430 here and it is safe to say that since then, they have been a success for the company. However, we all felt that they wouldn’t be done yet, after all, PING’s patterns are a bit predictable.
No matter that, because today is the day the PING G430 MAX 10K becomes officially official.
PING G430 MAX 10K Driver
One thing that no one can deny is PING knows forgiveness and playability when it comes to drivers, though the new G430 MAX 10K is taking that to new heights. As you might have guessed by the name, this driver has cracked the 10,000 combined MOI rating which has long been held as the ultimate level of stability, making it the highest MOI driver that the company has ever released.
While the previously linked release article breaks down all the design features which PING packed into the G430 release, there have been some notable changes and alterations that must be discussed. The MAX 10K does remain a 460cc driver head, but there has been a lot of internal and external tech implemented to help get the combined MOI above that 10,000 mark.
First, there is a fixed tungsten backweight that is 28g and made possible by the “Carbonfly Wrap Crown” which weighs only 13g itself. Though the 5g difference here in that weight of the MAX 10K might not seem like much, that amount is massive when it is placed far to the rear and outside of a clubhead. By pushing that mass down and back, accuracy comes up.
All the mass to the edges of a larger footprint clubhead taking the MOI high is great, but PING also knew they needed to keep speed up. So, to do that they have thinned the T9S+ Titanium face even more in the G430 MAX 10K. Additionally, the variable face thickness (VFT) has been re-optimized for the new shaping and size to create more spin consistency.
PING does mention that due to the size and weighting of the head that this G430 version will produce a “less muted and slightly louder sound” than the others within their current lineup. If you are familiar with MAX heads from PING, then you likely aren’t surprised at that, though it is nice to see the company come out and acknowledge it this time around. PING is also making the G430 MAX 10K available in a HL (High Launch) version which is aimed at golfers who don’t make as much club speed.
The Details
The PING G430 MAX 10K has a standard head weight of 206g and will be offered in 9.0, 10.5, and 12.0 lofts with each being adjustable via the adapter to +/- 1.5 degrees either direction. Standard shaft options will be the PING Alta CB Black 55 (SR, R, S) for the regular version, and PING Alta Quick 35/45 in the HL. There are additional PING, Mitsubishi, and Project X options available as well.
Pricing is set for $650.00, with availability starting today.
Glad the $650 isn’t the street price. Will be interesting to see people’s results with this one.

I watched the @Club Champion videos last night on the two 10K drivers (Ping & TM) just released by @ianfrasergolf & @mikeclubc
Their comment on both of them was that they didn’t really work at higher ball speeds (160 Ball Speed) as the GC numbers indicated.
Once Ian dialed back his speed did the drivers start fitting in the “Preferred Launch and Spin Window”
It was in their opinion (I believe I have this correct) that both of the 10K Drivers were designed and set up for the “Buy it off the Shelf” crowd.
Ian hit his G430 Max so much better than the GMax 10K. Granted it was fitted by him however the 10K just wasn’t design for him or the type of player he his.

You have this correct, Great driver but that 10k at a certain speed is just kicks up the spin too much… Great driver but 9? Max is such a beast.
Question @Jman – As OEMs push this 10K MOI limit, could putting lead tape on this driver or the Qi10 driver make it non-conforming?

That is the reason why I have a handful of guys I’ll watch for reviews. You get the beast opinion and how the club works for Matt. You might pretty much match up with Rick Shiels or Michael Newton’s swing numbers and relate to them and compare their opinions to yourself. Or you find the Average Golfer with lower numbers and see what he thinks.
Same with reviews here, find someone you can relate too.

I really like The Average Golfer reviews on YouTube. This guy is like most of us JAGs.

It absolutely could if you put enough around the perimeter.
One review said it was longer heel to toe than the g430 max for more forgiveness.
Hit this one today. No numbers at the golf expo I was at though.
I had my usual toe miss going and I could tell it was very stable on impact. The one I did square up felt really nice. I didn’t mind the sound at all if my I’m honest.
I do think it looks a little busy over the ball but the shaping is fine for me.
