At THP, we believe that testing should be done not only by us, but also by the golfers just like you. One of the cool features about being an active member of the THP Forum is that we look to you guys/gals, the consumers, to give feedback on equipment to golfers all around the world. Each month we send out iron sets, drivers, hybrids, putters, trainings aids and golf balls to our active members to be a part of the THP Forum Member testing.
Recently, THP & Ping sent out 3 sets of the brand new i20 irons to THP forum members and the equipment is arriving in their hands as we speak. It is their job to play the role of equipment tester and put the irons through the paces and update the readers accordingly with their thoughts. Follow along for another consumer based review and find out what regular golfers just like you think about this interesting piece of equipment.
These reviews are really awesome and something different. I love all the customizations they received. Thanks for doing this for us THP & Ping!
With all the press these irons were getting prior to testing, these might be the clubs to hit at demo day. Now add the testinginv returns and they have cemented their place in one of the top
Spots.
The guys contributing are doing a great job!
The testing thread has been tremendous. Anyone looking at new irons needs to try these out. They are special
The guys in the testing thread are doing a great job! I have really been pondering a set of i20s lately.
Nice looking iron! My home club is having a Ping day in April and I cannot wait to hit these.
While I am not a tester of these irons, I recently purchased a set. Why? Because I believe these are the best i Series of irons I’ve ever hit. Responsive, forgiving, awesome looking, and flat out solid performers. PING has a real winner with the i20’s and I think it’s fantastic that they participated with THP on this level. The testers are doing a great job so far. I expect this round of testing and that thread to be extremely busy.
As one of the testers just want to thank THP and Ping for this opportunity. The test thread has tons of information already. Must read if you are considering irons this year.
Great early feedback flying in on these irons from both the formal testers and forum members that have purchased them. Must resist urge to buy another set of irons, but I can’t wait to hit these!
Lots of great information and observations already being posted by the testers. The thread has been a fun read.
thanks to PING for doing some forum testing with THP! the initial thoughts and reviews are good so far
This testing is just getting started, yet it’s already caught fire!
the thread is a great read and there is some awesome info on the irons and the custom work Ping can do for you.
Some amazing thoughts and reviews by the testers so far. Keep it up!!
You said it Paulo…this thread is really hot.
The vids, the comments, the photos….sssssmokin’ !
Great job testers!
Awesome job by the testers on these. Thanks so much PING and THP!!
What is everyone’s feelings about how the club face tends to show wear almost immediately
The gray face of the irons appears to wear off in no time. I am considering buying a set but this is a potential for me. Any thoughts?
Great job so far by the testers. This set has intrigued me since I hit them at the PGA show. Their popularity is gaining traction and this will be a great one to follow.
Bought a set of these and not impressed at all….despite all the good press…..very average.
I’m returning my I20 irons today after 8 rounds and 45 days of practice. I will keep short and to the point. I play to 13 Handicap. I20 are longer than my S57 and old I5, more forgiving but not as precise (if that makes sense). The short irons are hard to control even with the stronger shaft. The long Irons feel noodlely, high and long but not accurate. Feel is pretty muted compared to my S57 and old I5. The light color heads makes them look HUGE in the bag. The soles are TOO wide for standard play. The worst is the grooves, you MUST play a good ball, else forget about holding greens with your 8 Iron or longer. For some reason these clubs spin less than any other new rule compliant iron, because I’m an amateur, I will stick with pre-grove rule irons. and buy a new driver with the credit (I20 of course), may be wait for the pink G20 Bubba driver…. I agree with very average.
Frank, with a 13 handicap your really shouldn’t be playing these irons, and especially the S57’s. Trade for the G20’s that will help your game.
Steve,
How can you say that someone with a 13 handicap should not use i20’s? Surely anybody can go and try any number of clubs and select which ones perform better for them irrespective of handicap. I was playing i15’s when my handicap was still 19 because they were the best clubs I tried when I was in the market for new ones. I play to a lower handicap now and I’m convinced this is partly due to playing and improving with clubs that suited me.
Picked my new i20s up on Friday. Fitted with KBS tour stiff shaft. Really impressed with the ball flight. Was expecting much higher but these trap the ball nicely and shoot out a really strong penetrating flight. It’s early, but I think they are playing longer than mth Titleists cb’s with PX 6.0’s. I note they are stronger on the lofts a degree or two from Titleists . I bought them for their progressive set up. I must say the long irons are a dream to hit. Yes they look huge in the bag and the face etching will wear off but who cares if they are getting e bar rout there a straight. You can def tell that you are not hitting a forged club but these cast numbers ave a real crisp feel..which I like. I’ve had 4 sets of club since my last pings and the i20 have are a pole important . They all have a differ feel.
I’ve owned 4 sets of irons over my 15 years of playing (2 TM burner sets, Ping i3, S59), and the i20s will be my last set for the foreseeable future! Had a full fitting done during a demo day by the local Ping rep, Joe. He even took the time to put me on the launch monitor with a driver to confirm my ball flight. Everyone has a “go to” iron or two in their bag, but I found an immediate ‘go to club” comfort level with all the irons (4-UW)! I’m a muni golfer, playing to an 85-98 avg. score, and my 2nd round with the i20s produced a round of 89! Way fewer “fat” shots, they produced a high trajectory, and the flight was predictable throughout the entire set! Well worth the investment!
I recently purchased a set of i20 irons. I had mizuno mx25. I love these irons i hit great shots. I lovr the cfs stiff shafts and the feeling of the shots. I’m ping lover now. Super!
I recently had a full fitting on Ping demo day and purchaed the i20 irons in a regular graphite shaft, and the i20 driver with project x 5.5 shaft. I hit exceptionally well on the demo day, however, my first try with the full set was very disappointing. Every shot was a push or slice, and I hit all clubs about ten yards less than my Mizuno JBX 800s and my old TaylorMade Driver. I am a 17 handicap, and was to a 13 with my Mizunos. I feel the i20s are much less forgiving and were probably not the clubs for me.
Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew
of any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.
I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was
hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like
this. Please let me know if you run into anything.
