PING has created many putters throughout its storied history, but many will agree that they are at their best when it comes to creating a clean, classic putter. With the release of the new PLD Milled putters, PING has updated their non-insert putters to offer golfers traditional Anser shapes as well as two mallets that won’t sacrifice any of that tour-preferred feel.
PLD stands for Putting Lab Design, a moniker that PING has used in the past for tour models and some limited-edition releases. Many of the models on tour are often considered prototypes and carry that PLD name. We have seen some of these models come to the market, most recently with the limited release of the PLD Prime Tyne model used by Cameron Champ.
These PLD models come from 303 Forged Stainless Steel and are precisely milled to PING’s tight tolerances. Each face also features a deep aggressive milling pattern that helps tune both the sound and feel of each model. Four models are part of this release, each of which is tour validated.
Anser – The Gold standard of putter shapes. Best suited for a slight arc stroke. It weighs 350g, is paired with PING’s proprietary graphite shaft, and features a stealth finish.
Anser 2 – Shares a similar build to the Anser model, with a narrower and longer head. Anser 2 still fits a slight arc putting stroke and weighs 350g.
DS 72 – Very similar to the putter used by Viktor Hoveland. This model would be best suited for the golfer with a straight putting stroke and is the heaviest at 365g.
Prime Tyne 4 – Another excellent option for those with a slight arcing stroke. Similar to the Anser, it shares that black stealth finish. This fang design is popular on tour amongst all the major brands. Prime Tyne 4 tips the scales at 360g.

The PING PLD Milled Putters will be hitting retail next month.

The compactness of the head is one of the things that draws me to this model so much. I’m chomping at the bit for mine to come in.
stable
Good feel
Great sound
Slow
Puts a great roll on the ball
as for the graphite shaft – not a fan. Something about it is off and not sure if it’s weight or flex but reshaft will be needed
I like the sound of this! Both the Tyne as a blade alternative, and more so the Anser fit its blacked out naked stealthiness. Will need to seek them out to try. Good luck with the Tyne ??
The stock graphite shaft truly disappoints in this line up. The fact that the PLD custom program offers a different “firmer” PLD graphite putting shaft tells me they knew the stock retail wasn’t perfect
One of my buddies has this putter and his game has really improved. Nice buy.
I would like to know if ‘custom’ model heads are also made in China (most likely)
I just happened to roll a PLD Anser 2 this afternoon and it felt perfect to me and I was rolling it so well.
Are you still liking your Anser 2?
You still liking your Anser?
nope. Didn’t keep it as ping was too strict with warranty if I reshafted it from stock graphite and wanted too much to reshaft it to steel when I asked Customer service about it.
i wasn’t rolling it well. wasn’t really consistent for me. i couldn’t adjust speed at all with it. but that’s most likely on me and my stroke. either way, no, no longer have it.
Got the DS72 for the face balance.
I have really been enjoying mine.
You pay what you get for……..
I have 55 rounds on my PLD Anser. I love it. Over the years I’ve played just about every model of Anser that Ping had made; this is the best one.
Black finish looks like new; soft feeling off the face, and no distracting alignment “aids”.
Trying to take mine out to transition some feels and visuals with a putter change coming for the first time in a couple years. A few from today ^. It’s pretty good. Of all the different OEM fangs the Tyne 4 shape is my favorite, and the PLD has a little different feel off the face that I kind of like with the balls I play. Definitely has a unique feedback too though. I putted pretty well with it. Missed a couple 8-12′ early on, but got everything inside 7′ and had a few nice ones and ones that mattered in the moment mixed in. Anyway, I’ll take it out until the MC order arrives I think.
I like this idea. How were you able to do it? Isn’t the Ping tip .345 vs the MMT sizes of .355 or .370?
